Hi Big 4s,
Which Big 4 is good to join for the "Certified Information Security Manager" (CISM) role?
Considering the following factors:
1. Learning and Personal Growth opportunities.
2. WLB (I know it can be difficult in the Big 4)
3. Flexibility and Perks.
4. Company culture.
5. Better work environment.
6. More responsibilities towards work.
7. Ethics and values.
My next goal is to move into the Big 4.

Never saw it being demanded. I think people outside of the community do it to normalize it, so that trans or non-binary people aren’t stuck being the only ones having to define themselves.
With that said, I don’t have it in my signature, although I respect and understand those who do.
when cis people put their pronouns it really really makes me feel less "othered" for having they/them
it may not seem like a big deal but the difference is huge in how welcoming it makes us feel
Not only is it more inclusive, it’s a shot of botox for older creatives
I do it to normalize putting pronouns in signatures and (bonus) because I have a name not rooted in European languages/Christianity, it helps people (who do care) address me the way I prefer.
Goood point, I’d never considered this but love this application!
I’m lgbt and I don’t do it. But I kinda see the people who do as a safe ear. Even if I never actually turn to them
AD1, they both felt it was inappropriate for their employer to pressure them to be public about such a personal matter as their gender and sexuality. One of them ended up just doing it for fear it could affect her career, and the other stood her ground because she felt it was so out of line that it pissed her off. Both fully support LGBTQ+ community, they just felt it was a personal issue that an employer should stay out of.
I definitely don’t think it’s political nor would companies force us to do anything like that. Its most likely a suggestion that demonstrates the company and employee’s commitment to creating an inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ individuals.
If you’re a cisgender person (your gender identity matches your assigned sex at birth), does it negatively impact you if you did put your pronouns in your signature? Probably not. Does it show that you’re an ally for someone who isn’t cisgender? Probably! And it’s super cool of you to be one.
People make assumptions about the gender of another person based on the person’s appearance or name. These assumptions aren’t always correct, and the act of making an assumption (even if correct) sends a potentially harmful message - that people have to look a certain way to demonstrate the gender that they are or are not.
Using someone’s correct personal pronouns is a way to respect them and create an inclusive environment, just as using a person’s name can be a way to respect them. Just as it can be offensive or even harassing to make up a nickname for someone and call them that nickname against their will, it can be offensive or harassing to guess at someone’s pronouns and refer to them using those pronouns if that is not how that person wants to be known. Or, worse, actively choosing to ignore the pronouns someone has stated that they go by could imply the oppressive notion that intersex, transgender, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming people do not or should not exist.
At the least, it opens up space for conversations with folks that may not be as familiar with the subject. So many people have asked me what it even means, and once I get through explaining it I’ve gotten so many positive responses and or at least acknowledgement that they’ve learned something new. Which for what it’s worth, is progress. :-)
Happy to chat more if you have any questions!
Why should only LGBT+ people specify? We all want to be addressed by our correct pronouns, and that way no one has to guess. Also helpful when you’re emailing someone with a gender neutral name (think Jaime, Alex, etc). It’s not political.
Ha CW5, feel you 😭

It’s not mandatory, it is inclusive, and there are loads of “non-LGBTQ+ reasons” to do it — esp when most are still virtual
Copywriter 4 is the reason this is a good thing.

It’s definitely not political, but I also don’t have it in my signature (because I honestly don’t care what people refer to me by).
I fully understand why some people use them though, and it does make it easier to refer to people the way they want without the potentially awkward conversation.
Agree with C1, definitely not political. I’m cis and my agency offers the option in the signature so I take advantage and include pronouns to show support. No skin off my ass *shrug
You know how they often write three pronouns (he him his or she her hers), I always wonder if people think grammar rules have changed. If "he", aren't the other two automatic? I wonder if I could write (she him theirs) for myself.
Copywriter 1, making mistakes is okay! The fact you're trying is the important part. Really.
I've been there before and if you catch yourself going 'how is -they" just say their name instead if you really don't want to swiftly correct yourself and move on. How is (name) is grammatically correct.

I get why people do it. But at the same time, I never quite understood it in the context of an email signature. Very rarely do I find myself writing 3rd person pronouns in an email. It's either two people talking, or it's a group of people, in which case I'm going to @ whoever by name. I suppose it's just the easiest place to establish your pronouns without going out of your way to do so?
It happens a lot to me and only over email.
I specify because though my gender expression is very obvious with my first name and how I present to the world physically, people assume that I’m male and will address me by my last name due to my title. It’s like skipping over Rebecca to call me John.
I’ve never heard of that being demanded. People who put pronouns in their bios are often doing it to make sure that others whose pronouns are in doubt don’t have to constantly be the only ones to point out that they might be different. Instead, if everyone just identifies themselves as they would prefer to be seen, then it’s a non-issue.

You don’t have to add it, no one will force you, no one looks at those signatures anyway. If you want to virtue signal go ahead and throw it in.

🙄
How is it 2021 and we are still using email signatures ?
I do it in solidarity and because finally I feel like its actually an achievement to be a woman in this biz after all these years. it’s optional for us.
It's not political, and I found this nice write-up about it recently: https://theactuarymagazine.org/the-importance-of-pronoun-disclosure/
That said, I haven't added mine yet, so I should get on that as an ally. 😬
