Start with the John's Hopkins Data Science Specialization on Coursera (few weeks).
If your Excel skills are non-existent, find a class on Udemy (short is fine, but practice whatever doesn't come naturally).
For SQL, find a course on YouTube or LinkedIn learning (just a few hours on this one) and then pour much longer into practice: Leetcode, HackerRank, Oracle Dev Gym, whatever else you can find (practice daily; SQL is basic, but you REALLY need to have the syntax down).
Python, I suggest a bunch of bite size courses on Data Camp (a week?). If you know a little about data structures and algorithms, do leetcode easy problems for practice. If not, do the daily drills Data Camp has after you finish a class.
Read about good data viz. Tufte is canon, but I recommend Storytelling With Data by Knaflic which reads very quick. Get Tableau (free student license?) and practice with it on whatever data.
Finally, practice hands on start to finish analysis from cleaning up initial data to making a deck with viz and a dashboard. Benchmark against the most informative presentations you can find, and don't forget a little "wow" factor. If you have an interesting meta topic or just something nifty, share it with us too for applause and optional constructive criticism 🍻
Connect with folks in lighthouse. Math degree gives you insights into statistics. If not, think about data science/statistics courses that will give you basics of modeling. That's what they primarily do in lighthouse. But Analytics goes beyond modeling
You should try to transition over to the Workday practice and get Prism Analytics certified. We have been selling tons of work but we don’t have enough Prism certified folks
In a softer tone, I agree with KPMG. Workday modules are great to learn if you just want job security and implement the same thing at every client. However, if you wish to answer problems outside of the box, then I’d highly advise against it. Was one of the early workday consultants in my country and I spent years to pivot and get out of those golden handcuffs
Probably best to reach out to the folks in deal advisory strategy analytics aka the old SPI team. Much of the deals they're on are related to FDD and strategy deals. They use many different tools to solve complex business problems. Not as heavy as lighthouse, but the things they work on are very approachable for people with a basic understanding of analytics.
What’s your level? Try getting on a project first, if you can. I worked on several then made the switch.
The switch to LH that is, as a D&A Modeler
