I am debating going to therapy for some anxiety issues I have but I truly feel like I understand why I feel the way I do and I manage to cope with it well enough. I wish I could stop the anxiety completely but I am not sure a therapist could do that. I just fear I would be throwing a lot of money at some thing just to be told what I already know possibly. Has anybody been in a similar position and found therapy worth it?

I started interviewing therapists two weeks ago and already feel better from those interviews.

I’ve typically had a lot of anxiety, and for years thought that therapy wasn’t for me because I’m already pretty reflective (I journal often).

Still, the act of just discussing my anxiety and stressors with someone else provided an amazing release. Highly recommend.

Plus, if you find someone in-network, it’ll probably be very affordable.

I can relate. I debated for many years, managed to “cope” on my own & because I was still “productive & functioning” I honestly thought I overcame it. Long story short, it caught up with me & led to burn out. I guess I got so good at compartmentalizing & kept denying needing help. I’m in therapy now for 4 months & it has been such an eye opener for what’s “behind the anxiety.” I will say that just like medication, talk therapy will not cure or make the anxiety completely disappear. I’ve come to learn to “work” with anxiety. Looking back, I feel I would’ve benefited & perhaps avoided the burn out had I gone sooner. Everyone is different, do what feels right for you. All the best!

Use EAP if it’s offered through your work. The first few sessions should be free and also available to spouses & dependents. EAP is a separate benefit, it’s not part of your medical benefits. From there the EAP counselor and you can decide if you need someone more specialized

I have and I think it was worth every penny. The therapist helped me deal with how I was feeling when it was happening and how to manage it going forward. It’s not a quick process but if you get the right person it’s a
Invaluable life skill.

I started therapy for something completely unrelated to anxiety. Partly just because I had benefits upped for it and figured I should use them. I’ve learnt so much about myself.. why I think the way I do, why I have anxiety, anger, attention issues PLUS things to help deal with them. Talking about this stuff helps you heal. I would say a good fit when it comes to your therapist is very important too. I was lucky as mine is a fantastic match for me. I’m shocked at how much I learn about myself every session. I also feel lighter and better knowing I’m unpacking damage/hurt/processes/habits that contribute to anxiety etc. High recommend for trying it. Don’t be afraid to voice if the therapist you have isn’t a good fit. It matters for it to be effective. Good luck!

I was in a similar position, but often times my therapist provides input that I wouldn’t otherwise think of. It’s also nice to just have an outlet and a third party POV.

Seeing a therapist will do no harm or cause no further damage in my experience even if it is just a few sessions it is absolutely life changing

I work with a therapist for anxiety and a couple of other things, but the biggest thing I've found helpful is she calls me on my bs. Anxiety can warp your thought process and/or perception. We'll talk about what's going on in my head, and she helps call out to me where my perception isn't necessarily accurate and helps me keep my head on straight. She also helps me with working on coping mechanisms and and negative behaviors. I've gotten a great deal of value from working with her and getting a more level, calm head when life throws me challenges. The key is getting a therapist that works FOR WHAT YOU NEED and that can take a few tries to find the right fit.

I have found therapy helpful. I think a lot of advice given is straightforward information but sometimes you need to divulge into those scenarios. But also, it took me three times to find a therapist. Additionally, you may want to look into a form of medication to help

When you get the right therapist it is worth it.
You could do well with therapy. And you are
Asking about it. That shows me you have the desire to try. But don’t give up until you get a therapist you are comfortable with.

I had slight anxiety early. Caught it early and talked my way out of it. If it had not solved I would have seen someone. Best of luck OP, hope you feel better.

Anxiety is artificial and it's just a state of mind in discomfort some time it balances and sometime it gets disordered.. seeing therapist will definitely help but at the end self learning to manage, is mandatory in long run...

I take Lexapro for anxiety it works wonders.

Yes.... some of these individuals have Lardge Losss experience but does that really make a 20-25k difference? Any advise!?

I recently (1+ yr ago) transitioned from consulting to industry. The hours are much better. Total comp is less than what I was making on the consulting side (-15% less). I was hoping that I would make up for that comp difference in a year or two but upward mobility seems limited. Is it too soon to look for another job?

What are some other functions to consider with good $ and impact?
- Strategy & Operations
- Product marketing
- Business development?
