I think shifting priorities and interests is a good thing. If we were all the exact same people we were when we were 18 that would mean we would have no experiences or growth and that’s just sad.

Cont. i feel like i have come to accept that at 27 it might be better to focus on retirement and my true passion ( real estate ) than waiting to magically have the career or my dreams and keep delaying retirement.

I recently had the same shift in mindset

Nah I feel that. Minus the buying real estate part, I want to do the exact same. Am super driven, like in my first job, all I cared about was building the skills needed to move into “my dream job”. Was able to move somewhat into a similar position but now instead of really striving for that, I’m just like hold on a second, I don’t dream of labor. I wanna be out of the workforce ASAP so who cares about eventually working in that position.

Same when I was 28 I shifted from wanting to be ceo of a publicly traded company to wanting to be a wife and have 3 babies.. Hasn’t happened yet but if I could trade my job for a man and family I wouldn’t think twice

Congrats for getting there in your 20s and not in your 40s/50s. It will save you a lot of stress! Now that you have a goal, it will be easier to prioritize and take action towards it. I love this for you!

Should I open an IRA Roth account? Need suggestion on better allocation. Im mid 20s, making 80K pre-tax. My allocation is as followed: 1) 401k account has only $21K. 5% in Roth and 3% in pre-tax, no IRA account yet. My company matches 100% up til 3%, and 50% til 5%. 2) 85K in stocks, including both base and profits 3) 50K in real estate 4) 25K emergency funds. No debt. Should I open an IRA roth account and max it out? Not sure what my goal is. Im 40% high risk high reward, 60% stability.

Venting here... Been working for 8 years now, always wanted to move to California. I remember in 2012/2013 finding really nice homes for ~$1M. The same caliber homes are $4M+. I've more than doubled my salary since I started but it feels like nice homes are getting further away. I'm not sure there any many salaries anywhere that can buy $4M homes. How is this rational?

Looking for some advice. Currently contributing 10% to 401k and maxing out Roth IRA, and remainder of savings (usually $800-$1200 per month) putting in a HYSA for a down payment on a house. Hoping to buy in 2-3 years once we (partner & I) have a sizable down payment. Should I continue to put all my non-retirement savings in an HYSA for a downpayment or should I also contribute to my brokerage and invest to grow wealth? (24yo, $85k)

I’ve been doing civil defense work for well over 15 years. I am seriously thinking about switching sides. I’m tired of being valued by how much I bill instead of my results. Do you really have no billable hours? How does that work?I make 180k a year, can I get at least that much as a salary doing plaintiffs work?

do you ask to know the salary of a job during the first interview or do you go through the whole process (could be 2 total interviews, could be 5) to ask? The interview process is such a mental and time drain that I honestly don’t even want to go through it unless I know the salary is something Im interested in.

For those that have been on a split-start, does Google adjust your salary for local markets? My salary while I wait for my EU passport is €66k which equates to $74k USD, however I can see that the role I have has a higher AVG. starting salary, stateside. Will they adjust for local market, or simply just convert my salary to local currency? I make $90k rn so it’d be a bummer to start making considerably less while I wait 3mo’s to move abroad.
