Former flight attendant here. Don’t call the airline or they’ll say no. Once you’re onboard, let the flight attendant know that your toddler is back with your husband and ask if the toddler can be with you in your seat for a bit at any part of the flight.
It was back in 2001-2003 so thing were weird, as you’d imagine...the pay was so awful, it should have been illegal.

I have my kids in Business/First all the time. Usually one with me and one back in Economy with my husband (he prefers the cheap seats, TBH). I do not care one iota what other pax in my cabin think, as long as I am within the rules and being an attentive parent who is making an attempt to teach their child how to behave on an aircraft. That’s how they learn.
TBH the worst thing about flying with a toddler in B or F is that you end up with an 8 year old in premium economy who goes, “Mommy how come these seats are so tiny and we don’t get warm nuts?”
I would think babies/ toddlers are not allowed in business class, but maybe I’m wrong. My two cents (which I’m sure many will disagree with) is that if I paid that much for a ticket the last thing I would want is a baby potentially wailing it’s head off during the entire flight (I once took an international red eye with a toddler in the seat in front of me and, while I completely understand it’s difficult for the parent to do much about it, it was a pretty unpleasant flight experience).
Agree with this. I had an infant in one of these aircraft cribs in business class. Was no Problem.
You definitely can but just know everyone else in business will hate you. I like kids as much as the next person, but I hate being in first or business class with toddlers. This happened on my last flight where even a well behaved one was annoying to have around because of the parents talking in baby voices, getting up and down banging into the seat while they did, spilling snacks everywhere. With that example, noise canceling headphones only went so far. I’ve been in business class cabins where the child runs up and down the aisle. I’m not saying you will do any of those things and your child may be fine on the flight, just be mindful of everyone else who paid a lot for peace and quiet.

Of course you can… my 16 month has taken 8 flights, all in business.
If you’re flying international they will most likely try to stop you from taking the toddler back and forth. This is an FAA policy.

While their regulation is done by the CAA, BA operates in the US, so yes, they also very much care about the FAA 😉
Generally not possible
Why are you in Business while your husband AND child are in Economy? Seems like it would make sense for the person in Business to have the kid with 'em...

Move the infant to your ticket… if it’s under 2, they can make this change even last minute. You don’t have to worry then
and I have an award ticket
Doesn’t BA charge like 10% of the ticket for lap children, so ideally the Y ticket was cheaper than J. Granted I’ve brought my dad up to F for canapés and drinks before, just talk to the FAs upon boarding, and politely ask if it’s okay after the meal service (essentially creating as little additional work or hassle for all), they most likely will say it’s fine.

just add your child to your lap formally on your ticket. Passengers aren’t allowed to move between classes while on the plane. It’s Covid so they will enforce rules more than usual, and it also disruptive to others
I’d keep the toddler in economy seat whoever sitting there with and switch the business seat between me and my husband whenever needs a break for each or need to work on something alone quietly. If you can afford giving up half of your time in biz class because no works to do, and half&half partnership. Toddler doesn’t care, other business folks are toddler free, FAA complied, no change to the airline seating chart. Moving around between family or group is allowed during the flight as long as you keep your original seat during landing/take off/emergency situation.
Are infants not allowed in business? If you started with the infant in business (ie not swap in the middle of the flight, would that be ok? Genuinely curious here (soon expecting).
they are allowed -flown with one before in business but their “lap ticket” was linked to my seat.
Provided you’re not Malaysian, which you aren’t, you can sit in any cabin with any age human. While it varies by airline, under 2 can be lap infant and any other child can sit in any seat.
I was on Singapore in their brand new A380 first suites two years ago when a family bought all the seats but mine, three of which were kids, two parents, and one baby. Money speaks.
Still flying commercial though...
Why not just trade seats with your husband? You can go back to him when you want to be your child and he can go to business.
It’s the best option. They’re going to have to go between the classes regardless.
Pay for the added coat of the lap infant in business or leave the baby in coach with your husband. Don't subject other business class passengers to your baby if you haven't even paid for that.
