This is not the solution. I have heard a rumor that in Mo they are removing the GPA requirements for teachers. So, C students teaching classes is the answer to teacher shortages? Regarding non-teachers being hired as teachers, content is only half of what we study in teacher training. I have worked at Charter schools that have done that, hire people off of the street with no teachers training. They are shocked when they find out what the job really entails and then they are out. What is the solution? Begin to value teachers.
You explain exactly what is going on in many areas. I think it absolutely devalues the college and student teaching work we have done to gain our degrees and credentials. But, I don’t know what to do about it. So many teacher’s are leaving the profession.

I understand where you are coming from but mind you I was one of those teachers you are referring to. I went through an ARL 10 week course 20 day student teaching which really just gets your foot in the door. But I had 3 years to get all the required course work and tests done or I would lose my license. (Which most people do not realize that part. ) So it may seem annoying to you but for someone like me it’s the best thing that’s ever happened and I’m lucky that they have these programs.
I am glad to hear it has worked out well for you.

I understand the frustration, but what do you expect them to do when there aren't qualified candidates?

When I started teaching the job market was really tough and they had abolished all the intern program options, so I really do feel your pain. It does feel unfair. I just don't see a solution, other than treating teachers better.
Some schools more worried about hiring diversity than they are about hiring good quality people. Some are great but some are obviously hired for one reason only. I see it happening in law enforcement as well.
It appears that our US education system is strained and struggling at this time. The pandemic magnified previous struggles i.e., funding, decrease in College of Education pathway interest and graduates, accelerated retirement, etc. 🥴
Supply and demand perhaps (private sector necessities).
