create some sort of competition. maybe they make a robot do a dance on tik tok and see who can get teh most likes or go viral
When I taught 5th grade robotics, we ended the year with the teams developing synchronized dances with other teams. The kids really enjoyed it.
What are they building? Maybe it’s not interesting for those not doing anything. You could try free robotics
I have pre made robots that we code using python coding. They are not fancy but cost $300 per robot. The coding is very technical.
They always check out about now...sigh. Make your activities super relevant and go outside the box (curriculum-wise) if nec. You can think of something that will keep them engaged, if you don't set limits on what it might be.
Tell them that a middle school in Florida wants to learn from them in robotics. I have what is call Botball robotics. It is a competition my students do with coding a robot to do tasks. We will start in May. Right now I teach App Creation and students have to make a workable app. Let me know we can both work together and make the last month interesting for all. Last day for students here is May 24.
We combined ela and robotics to create a movie. The students worked as a team to write a short story, build the movie set, used the robots as the actors. Allowed for many different skills. Turns out great.
Can you have them build some sort of “armor” to put over the robots and then code them to “fight”
