I've not experienced this myself, but it does make sense - especially in companies with a significant portion of older employees. Younger workers could easily be seen as the ones to pick up the slack and bridge the gap for their more seasoned (and less tech-savvy) counterparts. That said, there's no reason someone should have to feel trapped. Just because you're guided toward those types of roles doesn't mean you have to accept them.
It sounds like (and also was true for me)- the positions aren't advertised that way. They are definitely more "junior" positions, but not necessarily entry-level. And sort of "evolve" into more technology-focused roles. I heard frustration the other day that all development opportunities were also focused on the platform, rather than subject matter focused.
I would not say pushed, I would say given an opportunity. The comp I’m seeing given to those in their 20’s to learn tech recruiting is insane. I’m trying them & they are making more than me.
I guess it's becoming a pattern for industries with pre-established hierarchies. Younger recruits tend to be knowledgeable in tech so they get thrown into jobs where they could get the hang of the system.
