I am in a phase of a project that is 12+ hour days - I know it’s only going to be for a month or so but balancing the smallest of other tasks is making me stress the f out. Family trying to group text all day long about holidays, friends wanting to buy flights for trips, figuring out groceries and personal errands, time with my husband. Im usually a list/planner person but even that is stressing me out. How do others handle these phases of work? I know it’s temporary but still 😵‍💫

I feel for you so much. It’s not easy and the best way through is to draw firm lines about what you can and can’t plug into.

1) Use technology to your advantage — DND mode, send the family chat a sweet message “We are in a super crunch period at work so I’ll be quiet on here for a couple weeks, but I’ll check in a few times a week!” mute the group chat, set a reminder to check it on Monday and Thursday for any logistically urgent stuff.

2) Mobilize your helpers — can SO step it up at home, can you say “fuck it for the next two weeks we’re ordering in 3 nights a week and doing frozen meals 2 nights a week,” can a close family member be your proxy and make sure critical intel about holiday plans gets to you, etc

3) Dedicate sacred time for what re-energizes you — if it’s a long bath even at 11pm, a glass of wine and no screens on the sofa w SO, whatever… calendarize it if you have to

These are very helpful, thank you 🙏🏼 Tactical steps FTW.

“Only” a month or so? F*** that.

If you know you’re going to be doing 12 hour days, try to carve out 1 hour breaks here and there where you can focus on the trip planning or time with your husband or something for yourself. But reserve that time for something you want to do. The work will get done and you have to know that. Work some time in there for things you enjoy to help maintain the balance. Hope this helps.

My firm has a collections budget (80% of your billable rate x 1850 hours) and an hourly budget that must be met in order to be eligible for a bonus. The firm cares very little about originations and will reward someone for making their collections over someone who brings in new work. I missed my collection budget due to some odd timing with a client, but originated more than all my peers so no bonus for me. I’ve been at this same mid level firm for 9 years and it’s all I know. Is this normal??

For those who already have a baby - I (36f) just had a baby 6 weeks ago, and my wife (33F) is now back at work (WFH) and I’m still on leave. Since I have the baby all day and get up with her all night, my wife basically “takes over” baby duty when she stops working. The problem is that within an HOUR she has lost all patience with the baby. She gets frustrated so quickly if the baby is crying and will say things like “I’m just going to let her cry since nothing im doing helps” (cont)

Have a true IIED case (negligent handling of corpse). Defendants defaulted and I am now considering the best course forward to get my client the best recovery. The easy route would be Default Judgment, but my concern is a judge may not be willing to make the type of award we are seeking. Alternatively could set the matter for trial only on damages since all allegations are admitted. Thoughts on best way to convince a judge to make a 7+ figure award in a Default Judgment?

Are brand manifestos necessary? I’ve been doing branding for 12 years and both agency and clients put so much focus on it but it never really gets used/read after project is live.

Still I am having doubts because I think he isn’t very “intellectual”. To be clear, he’s intelligent! He is a great STEM role that requires an advanced degree. We share a love of reading as well. However he is not really interested in world affairs, does not follow the news closely, does not have a strong grasp

My husband yells at me in front of my 2 years old, even when he is scared. He needs to express his anger out before he can shut down. I am planning to leave him but I am hesitant because I am afraid this would negatively impact my son more, not having a father figure around much.... not the first time, my husband promises multiple time that at least he would control his anger in front of kid but never Lee up the promise...sometimes he would even throw stuff (not at me and my child)...
