I am in the final stages of interviewing at a company in a mid-size regional city in the southeast. I just found out they want to keep salary near $110k. I have 10 YOE and told them I’m targeting roles closer to $150k. I don’t know the full offering of benefits but assume it is bad (I know they have no current 401(k) match or paid parental leave, e.g.). Is there any way to negotiate this up or should I give up? $110 seems extremely lowball to me. That’s what first-years at big firms make here.

Yeah, no. Dont do this to yourself. Crappy benefits and salary? Nope!

like

Look at the Barker Gilmore and Robert Half salary guides. Im in SF. Wont be the same, but that us still way too low

It should be $160k.

I’m an attorney recruiter in the southeast and can tell you that is very low for someone with your level of experience. Is it a corporate counsel position or a higher level role in the legal department? I could see a company in the southeast paying that for an entry level role, but with 10 years’ experience you seem overqualified for those types of positions - unless you are pivoting entirely (for example if you are a litigator moving into a purely transactional role). Even so, it sounds low. Feel free to DM me if you would like to chat about trying to negotiate it up.

DMing you!

When I moved in-house a year ago as a BigLaw mid-level, I took a 45% pay cut, far more than I was comfortable with (although I was fine with a 20-30% cut). I took the job because it was a great role and I was focused on making the jump in house and developing the skills I wanted, which required me moving away from my firm practice area. Now that my year-end review is coming up, how do I ask my company for a significant pay raise (not just a 2-5% inflation-matching raise)?
