How long does it take you to bill 8 hours a day? I’m a first year and feel like I’m not as efficient as I could be or am under billing. It takes me 10-12 hours to bill 8. This includes the hour I take for lunch and dinner, some breaks for bathroom, and non billable time like entering time etc. how are people billing 200 hours a month? What am I doing wrong?

I cannot stand the billable hour. I love litgation but I would rather charge anyway other than a billable hours it's such a pain to enter to the 1/6th of an hour when I was doing.

Anyone else find it INSANE that PTO does not count towards your billable hour requirement. If you take a week off (40 hours), you’re really not getting paid time off if you have to make up all of that billable time before the end of the year. Am I missing something or is that just absurd?

Hi all, I am graduating with my Master’s of Accountancy In May of 2022, and have offers from Moss Adam’s and RSM both in Dallas. Can anyone compare the two for me in terms of billable hours requirements and office culture or anything else that comes to mind? Both are in tax with similar offers.

Please help clarify the confusion. Biglaw pays majors bucks with 1950 hours. Associates bill exactly 1950 (sometimes lower) and don’t get fired at BigLaw (although they won’t make partner, w.e.). Meanwhile, Regional and mid size firms pay significant less and expect 1850 billable hours, like why? 🤯 what’s their value proposition? It’s still a lot of billables and still sucks. What am I missing?

We are working on trying to convince firm management to update their very outdated meal reimbursement policy. Do others mind sharing what theirs are? Interested in maximum amount, whether there is a billable hours requirement, whether meals have to be delivered to the office, and whether any changes during pandemic. Thanks! How can I set the stage this year to negotiate a lower billable hours expectation instead of a raise? As a woman I'm hesitant to be open about my reason: I want more time at home with my kids. I lateraled to this firm a year ago for WLB and they are indeed flexible on WFH which helps. Salary is a bit below average for mid-size firms like mine in my area, and I didn't get a raise or bonus this year because I didn't hit the billable target (1900). Ideally I'd keep my salary but go to 1600 hours.

Does industry have billable hours? At the big 4, we are required to work a certain number of hours each week and if we spend too much time on anything we are questioned on why it took so long. Is that a thing when you go in industry?

I just started a new job and I’m worried I’m not being given enough billable work. I’m def not an overachiever but I’m literally billing 2 hours a day and I don’t want the headache of explaining my hours. FYI I’ve already asked for work multiple times.... The stress of billable hours anchored unhappiness in my life and I recognized it but it took a six month job search to find the right in house role.
