Just say you need to wrap up a project by end of August

Telling them you want to stay for a bonus is fine. That also gives them the opportunity to offer you a bigger signing bonus if they absolutely need you to start sooner.

This is the right answer.

No I did this for a shit bonus. They will understand and kindly oblige. If not, they should be prepared to match it.

How about project completion in August coupled with a planned family vacation that puts your start date into the post Labor Day timeframe

Also I wouldn’t mention your signing bonus because if they know you are staying for that reason then they may lowball you on any signing bonus they may offer since they’re typically offered in part to offset any loss of a future bonus at your current employer

@partners - I have two opportunities. One is to lead a group for a corporation (industry). The other is to join another consulting firm, doing the same work that I am doing now. My firm was one of the firms that gave covid bonuses but did not specify whether everyone was getting it. I didn’t make my hours this year because I was on maternity leave and a bunch of my cases ended 1-2 months before I went out so I had lower hours before I started my leave. I couldn’t make up for those lost hours when I was back since I was working from home with an infant because of covid. I didn’t get the covid bonus, which in my mind is ironic considering the circumstances. (Cont.)
