What business would you start with $20k?

Line up the paperwork for incorporating an LLC and look for simple liability insurance is my guess on where to start. Then it really depends on what type and stage of co. you want to work with, but generally tap your network or start posting on targeted forums that are looking to stand up your own practice and have time to help. Once there’s a contract in discussion, get the requisite paperwork filed.
We’ve had two different HR services, not a permanent solution but great support in the early days.

These are good ideas, but I’d wait until after the first client or two are engaged as 1099 and business direction is certain before formation .
I jumped the gun on forming companies before I really had a business, and in some cases it was wasted money and effort. And the tax and liability benefits done mean much until there is cash flowing

1) get a client. If you don’t have a client -
1a) prepare a one page proposal to clarify your offering. Also make posts to social media explaining how you can help and float it to your contacts
1b) network, reach out to your contacts, go to events (live or virtual) where prospective clients might be
2) prepare a consulting agreement. Include your clear scope of services, hourly or fixed rate, and include clear term/termination clause, waiver of liability, arbitration clause. Include what’s not included in your services (the proposal), expected work hours, expected response times. Include clear direction for method of payment, and offer east payment options like PayPal or venmo as well as check/wire Make it a template for easy editing and use for multiple clients. . DocuSign preferred.
3) work as 1099 contractor for the first couple of months. Meanwhile, use those earnings to:
4) develop a brand (can be your name or something else). Conceive a logo / Hire someone from fiverr to make it pretty
5) form an LLC and open a bank account
6) update the one pager (or deck) and social with your brand and value prop. Hire someone from fiverr to make it pretty
7) set up your social media pages. Hire someone to make it pretty if needed.
8) put new and renewal contracts under the new LLC
10) basic website
11) when you get too busy with client work hire a virtual or local assistant. Train them to do all the east things while you do the hard stuff and client communications.
12) if you want, then build more advanced website for client scheduling, faq’s, blog posts. Give lots of useful info.
13) if you want to grow, hire and train a jr HR specialist. Train them do a majority of the work while you focus on selling. Repeat.
14) love your new life as a business owner, and don’t forget to give yourself some time off!
