I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

“been a long time since I had an interview” - are you like a 5th year associate?
Exactly I’ve been here 2 years, a new senior and if i didn’t intern elsewhere my last interview would have been like 6 years ago

May or may not ask technical questions. They will probably rely on you to tell them about your experience. Write down notes to yourself of all the atypical or more complex things you’ve worked on. Also keep in mind the tasks that will be involved with the new position and hit those heavy. Take a look at the job posting and take note of the things they’ve specifically called out and make sure you address those as well when discussing your experience.
I've done some interviews recently at the senior level and was asked one accounting question. Overall, they do not ask technical questions - but that's just my experience.
I just interviewed last month. I don’t think they will ask you technical questions, at least I wasn’t. They’ll probably ask you more about your experience, what types of work you’re doing. They want to get a feel for whether you can do the job, not whether you know how to handle specific situations off the top of your head.
Since your resume got you the interview, focus on what you have on it... and the job description.
Just be prepared to answer question on what you’ve listed. Also, most of your interview will be behavioral, with maybe a couple of light technical questions. Don’t overthink it. Relax and just be yourself. At this point, you’re still growing technically, so you’ll be fine even if you don’t know something.
Good luck!!
Generally, I don't ask technical questions during interviews but I might ask leading questions to see if someone is technical. If you specifically mention technical experience or projects on your resume, the interviewer may ask about that.
I switched from industry to KPMG, as a senior, about two years ago. I was asked about my OIT & OTO skills and types of returns I have prepared. Also don’t forget to mention if you have ASC 740 experience.
