I am interviewing to join another firm as leader of a small but growing BU. But I’m worried that it could be vaporware. Is it appropriate to ask about team quals, clients, team capabilities and resumes etc as part of my DD? Really want to understand facts on the ground before I jump ship. What’s the appropriate level of detail to probe into?

I am in a similar situation. I asked the interviewers about the size of the team, number of leaders in the BU, revenue size, growth projections and how they see me fit into the whole plan. I also told them that I needed the above information to understand the lay of the land and whether I will be a good fit for the role or not. Important to know these details to avoid heartburn later for both parties.

If you’re interviewing to be the leader of that BU, shouldn’t you be the one bringing quals, clients and capabilities?

smart

Both things can be true. They know what I’m bringing. But I’m trying to find out what I’d be working with.

Make sure you speak with someone Jr. The leaders will put the best face in everything. They are unlikely to intentionally mislead you, but depending on how desperate they are they may unintentionally do so

The "appropriate" level of DD is whatever level you need to be comfortable with the role.

OP, you should ask to speak to the team members (managers and senior managers) you will be working with as well to ascertain their level of competence. As a leader, you will assume the role of selling and managing projects. However, you will be at ease knowing that you have a capable team to take the practice to the next level.

Stuck and need advice. Had been gearing up for a 3 day arbitration. I've done 70% of the work and senior partner just started stepping in as the hearing got closer. Also have my final interview for a new job this week and was told I'll have the offer. Plan was to put in notice, 2nd chair the hearing then start new job. Today, arbitrator postponed the hearing but without setting a new date. Want the new job, but feel bad leaving partner to do arb at some unknown point in the future. Thoughts?

Interview feedback: my answers weren’t concrete enough. I answered questions by sharing my work process, then sharing an example from prior projects and in the example I included how I prepare, who I involve, what that looks like day to day, types of required meetings and what is discussed, how I make decisions, etc. I’m looking for tips on how I can address this feedback? I have fulfilled the responsibilities of the role I applied for so I have the experience. Just need to frame it right.

Just spoke to someone who landed an interview at their dream company. They didn’t get it through applying. Here’s what they did instead: 1. They studied the job post. 2. They identified that the reason for the hire was to generate more company revenue. 3. They connected the company to a few potential customers by doing a quick looking through their network and messaging warm contacts. Unsurprised they got an interview out of it. Whats the best way you’ve seen someone land an interview?
