Hi Fishies! (Is that what we are? I’m going with it)
I just came across a Google Research and Insights role that got me SUPER excited and I was about to apply when I had the idea of seeing if anyone would be willing to give me a referral. I understand (and respect) that most of you Googlers on here feel that a referral is only useful if you know the person but I would be happy to jump on the phone to give you some info about me. It would mean so much! 4 YOE at a major audio steaming service

Yikes. I would say very likely indicative of the work culture there. Did you explicitly ask on that when interviewing?
Always always ALWAYS check HR/Legal about these matters!! If you violate a contract/clause/anything - the ol' "i didnt know" is NOT going to fly.
Oof. Sounds like you’re gonna be putting in a lot of hours. And seems like your manager doesn’t understand boundaries
This may violate your current employment contract. Make sure you check
It’s a start-up lol they are trying to become something right? Gotta work work work

Same! I know some people are about the entrepreneur life - I’m not at all. All I want is a good / stable paycheck without too much mind numbing working , nice coworkers, a decent personal life, and not a whole lot of guilt about the ethics on what I’m working on. I make change in my personal time through volunteering on the weekends. But this isn’t a good bschool story, so I’m going to have to make something up for that 😂
Hope you haven’t put in your two-week notice

What stage startup? If early then maybe it’s okay but if late then you may be in for some trouble

Always assess work culture. How do you negotiate salary and the whole benefits package if you don't even know what is expected of you? How do you know if it's the right place for you if you don't know the culture?
Set expectations because often startup employees work on their own hours. Maybe the manager doesn’t expect you to respond of maybe they log back online after the kids go to sleep
You’ll likely be working more at a startup.
