I am learning that networking can be a game-changer in any career. What is your best tip for making meaningful connections at industry events or online?

It totally can make a huge difference!! I feel like my main trick has been learning how to ask people questions. Most people like to talk about their own lives and their work, so learning how to ask good questions has helped me to build more connections in my field. It's definitely not easy to network but I've noticed a lot more opportunities coming my way as I've gotten bertter at it

I just make myself open to random conversations at events

At a conference I made a random friend and we spent the rest of the week going to talks together and now are good friends. All from randomly joking at my poster

A good tip is always making sure that you're paying attention to conversation and showing that you want to be there. In any networking event I always remember the people who were the most eager to talk and ask questions as the ones that I'd like to really form a connection with.

Make friends, stay in touch, let them know your goals and career aspirations. There’s a lot of turnover in my industry and people often move to competitors. Maintaining friendships and not burning bridges is a good idea. You never know when you may cross paths and they could even help you land a new role someday!

I wish I were better at networking… but so far none of my networking has landed me a better position - maybe one day it will make a difference.

I agree and that is one of the reasons I always tell people to network as much as you can. You really never know when you may need someones help down the line. I make sure to stay in touch with people and connect often to really keep that connection alive.

Its not about who you know, but who knows you! Focus on building your brand so if something comes up, someone in your metwork can be like oh you should reach out to so and so

I’m just curious — I’m still an early career professional and was looking into university career programs for potential development within a financial company I work for. I spoke to a recruiter who said they are typically geared towards recent graduates.

Are there any types of programs out there that may also consider other individuals seeking to develop their careers?

Quick vent, would love input: I’m an attorney working for a state-wide nonprofit. I’ve been crushing it this year and have been very successful in obtaining favorable divorce and custody orders. An OC (who is generally a terrible attny) just filed a bar complaint b/c I requested attorney fees, arguing they shouldn’t be allowed b/c I work for a nonprofit. The fee request is warranted & allowable. My manager thinks it’s a compliment, but I’m anxious. Thoughts?

Good morning everyone, Anyone open to referring me to a role at Amazon.

Hello fellow fishes and sharks! I am putting this message on behalf of my wife. Wanted to know, what would be a better role to switch to for a Manual tester with YOE :8 yrs in p&c domain. She has been stuck with one project and one firm still stuck at a CTC of 5.6lpa and associate role although her performance rating has been in the top 2 tiers. She has tried applying for many firms but not received much response. Will it be okay for her to completely switch her profile and start fresh?

She was really hoping to file for i485. Is there anyway this can be remediated?
