I am looking for ideas on how to get my students to give back to the community in small ways. I teach 3-5 year olds in deaf ed. I want us as a class to give back in a way that is appropriate for them.

Hat and glove drive, canned food drive, clean up the trash around the outside of the building, can they make a video on different signs they can use to communicate?

Like the other comment above, it would be cool if they could teach the community some sign language. Also, if there is a school choir, they could join in and teach the students some signs to go with the songs.

Art! Create art projects for them to display in public spaces like the county courthouse, public library, or nursing home!

Some sort of food packing, such as Feed My Starving Children or a community food shelf might be good.

Maybe give kid items to a battered women’s shelter or like the Rainbow house shelter in Ga. Great ideas above!!!

How about making pictures for elderly for Xmas to brighten their spirits? Lets them have fun, but they get to make someone smile. And then have the recipient write them a note back...

Host a play. Have them produce a performance and charge admission for their performance. Have them create the artwork for the program. Have them donate the proceeds to the local animal shelter each year. Have the animal shelter bring in animals for the students to meet. This will establish a healthy relationship that will put your students in a position of caring for some less fortunate than them. Some of the animals will also get adopted in the process. You can also learn about the animals in the process

(This is a leadership rotational program so it shows I’m invested in the company.) 3. I didn’t rec a raise in 2020 bc Covid so at a normal rate I would be making ...
