I am looking to leave my very small law firm firm and considering going to a much larger firm. I have some clients that were brought in by other partners but I am deeply entrenched in their work. It would not be easy for another lawyer to get up to speed, but the client contact is technically with another lawyer and I am working with that lawyer also on the file. I also have one client where we could really use some more bodies on the file. More in comments.

The client will likely just follow you and better resources. This is business. Otherwise, I’d the larger firm clears it, the old client will have to retain the new form and accept the new rates just to have you on it.

If I went to a larger firm, and assuming no conflicts, is there any chance the clients and the two firms would allow me to continue working on the files with the lawyers from my old firm? Is this ever done? I assume the client would have to engage the new firm also? The one client would greatly benefit from more workforce available at the larger firm.

Check your State’s ethics rules. Depending on how entrenched you are, the client may need to be advised on the change and given the choice to stay or go.

Continuing to be of counsel at your old firm would be a possibility if you were moving to a small firm, but with a big firm it would be a conflicts mess.

Generally, the client will choose whether to follow you or stay with the small firm. If you really have the relationship, and they like you, they may follow you, but it will be a function of who really manages the relationship, how good that relationship really is, and cost.

Question: I currently work as an inside sales account manager selling a wide portfolio of IT products. I’ve been recruited for a role that would be an outside sales role selling ONLY a software solution that Im able to sell at my current company (but usually don’t due to other options that we are compensated better off of.) The new role would have some overlap with current customers that I work closely with now (one being a VERY large client.) Would this violate a non-compete/solicitation?

I am at a Pharmaceutical Tech startup and we are hiring!

We are looking for Product Mgrs who have 4+ years of exp in client facing roles where you gather requirements, design solutions, work with developers to build the solution, test the solution end-to-end, and deliver to the client. The work itself is very similar to what we do in consulting but you don't have to worry about firm activities, utilization, etc.

Compensation is highly competitive

Hi Fishes,

I have given my interview in HCL and cleared 1 TP, 1 hcl manager & Client TP and Client Manager rounds .
In initial screening HR told the generic statement of 30-40% and I have given my ask as 50% minimum. After clearing the rounds I heard from the project team that Client has given great feedback and wanted to take me in .
What is the % I can ask in HR Discussion and will they reject in HR if I ask more now .
I have 9.5 years total experience and role is Storage Architect.
Thanks

How do you keep up with your non-billable tasks, while still hitting your hours? I delegate as much of these tasks as I can, but they still take up a good portion of my day. For reference, I spent about five hours today preparing a customized report for a client (although these reports are time-consuming, we never bill for them). I also had a 30 minute call with a partner related to business development. How am I supposed to get any actual work done? Any tips or tricks that work for you?

Not sure if this has been discussed before, but what kind of health benefits do your firms offer? I’m at a small firm (<10 attorneys) and the firm covers all health insurance premiums for staff and associates (including spouse and family plans) and also covers half of our deductibles. We also get a fitness reimbursement up to $200 per month. Are those benefits standard across the industry?

(Not a BigLaw lawyer) Just finished my first year as counsel for a firm. Came from public sector with no book and originated (and collected) a quarter million.
