I am new to the US. Do diversity programs only apply for white women in this country or is this how our Firm works? Please help me to understand. Thanks!

Not sure how PwC works but generally speaking, in the intersectional bingo board of oppression, white straight women would be higher on the privilege totem pole than just about everybody else except for white straight men; any women of color would be seen as relatively more “historically underrepresented.” And you are typically considered “diverse” if you’re not a straight white male.

Some people do argue that they should be excluded…the norm though seems to be to rope everybody who isn’t a straight white man into the “diverse” bucket. In my personal view, this whole approach is a pretty ham-handed attempt to address lingering issues in the USA of 2022 by deploying a toolbox from 1970…but that’s an entirely different discussion.

… unless you are one.

I worked at PwC for over 5 years - their program is very similar to those at other companies. It's intended to cover everyone in a diverse category: women, LGBTQ+, racial and ethnic minorities, religious minorities, veterans, disabled persons, etc. In reality, it does pretty much nothing to move the needle, and doesn't directly benefit anyone.

That's very strange and I would question that too. Which committee is it? I would imagine only the women oriented one should see that kind of gender skew.

In practice, white women are the greatest beneficiaries of affirmative action programs.

Welcome to the US. The color of your skin and your sexual preferences directly define your opportunities here.

No absolutely not. And from what I’ve seen diversity quotas set by firms is really changing the rank order of promotees in the yearly performance review cycles

When it comes to diversity, I would take anything at this point.

You got it right! Welcome to North America!

Absolutely not.

Last year, My girlfriend was making 80k while I was making 200k so I took her out to dinners and took care of the groceries etc. Basically made sure it’s an equitable relationship. She got a new job this year and is now making 210k (more than me) but still expects me to pay for all the dinners and groceries. I’ve already talked to her about this but just resulted in argument. Is there any coming back from this situation to make this equitable relationship or is break up the only option here?

Serious question here…how many men in this group realize how much of an afterthought women’s prayer spaces are in their local mosques and have actually done something about it? Additionally, how many of you all recognize the lack of female representation/diversity in general on mosque boards and the resulting lack of focus on specific issues/concrete programs pertaining to certain groups?
