Give it time. The recruiter messed up by not setting reasonable expectations up front, but if you really are excited about the job and you’re passively looking (no urgency to the search) you should let it sit. Sounds like you’ve made your mutual interest clear, so continuing to pester them for answers will probably sour the relationship more than help your candidacy.

I'd give them a buffer of one week before reaching back out. It does sound positive, but like POP1 mentioned, it's likely a mistake on the part of the recruiter not setting reasonable expectations.

Wait for a couple more days. It could be because of their heavy workloads. It happens sometimes.
I would continue to reach out. If you go a week without hearing back, reach out once more.
