I am shocked at the # of ppl who say, "I'm pretty sure I have coronavirus but are not getting tested and just self-quarantining." Can fishbowl do a survey? Love to see the community answers.

Most Americans best bet to see if they have coronavirus is to cough on a rich person and see if that person tests positive

Can there be an option for “I’m not rich or famous enough for anyone to pay attention to me, so I may as well stay at home and limit exposure”

like

There are not enough tests, CDC specifically says you should not be tested and should just stay home if you are not at risk

like

They know they won’t be able to get tested (and as mentioned above, CDC instructions are to stay home for all but severe symptoms). I’m in NYC. I have neighbors and friends with shortness of breath, fever, cough, and even confirmed pneumonia—they were all denied testing due to shortage.

I am among those people. Same for my 9 year old boy, whom I suspect gave it to me.

I live in NC and DHS here flat out said they are saving tests for those who show symptoms and are 65+, immunocompromised, or healthworkers and to self quarantine, if you are symptomatic. No way to get tested if you don’t fall into those groups, unless you are basically at death’s door.

CA1 - no kidding. There’s a layer of yellow pollen still present even after the early April showers we’ve been having in RTP

If you look at % of tests that come back positive (14% in the US), though, it’s clear a lot of people have symptoms that seem like COVID but are really just other respiratory viruses (cold, flu, etc). So while I’m sure the number of cases of COVID are much higher than reported, I’d bet a lot of people feeling like they have symptoms really have a cold or the flu rather than COVID as well

like

Yes it’s actually surprisingly reassuring for those of us who keep convincing ourselves the slightest cough means we have contracted the virus haha (myself included)

My 3 yr old had high fever for a week couple weeks back. All tests negative at doctors, no ear infection, negative strep, flu and pcr. We noticed she was breathing slightly heavy but not alarming. doc said they can’t test per the guidelines then. She was fine after a week.

Wife goes back to work next month, and we have to choose between having a nanny and sending our 1.2 year kid to day care. Without COVID, we would’ve always gone with day care. Want to get peoples thoughts on which ones safer. I have a feeling day care teachers may get vaccinated earlier than nannies. We are in Jersey City if that helps. Thank you!
