I am sick and tired to death but afraid to leave consulting because an industry job will not be perceived by other people as cool as consulting

I left consulting 1.5 years ago after 10 years in it, and let me confirm for you consulting is a bubble. Once you get out, you will see the world differently. Not better or worse, but different. I really liked my time (until I didn’t anymore), but you’re making a lot of extrapolations but on working with a small set of people in a limited capacity.

@D2, someone said it. Don't miss the BS. Exactly the difference that I found in industry and consulting.

Nah I feel you OP. Consulting is cool. It’s relatively high-paying (depending on where you are) and generally has an above avg talent pool. Fact of the matter is you learn at a much faster rate than most other career paths here.

That said I’d easily sacrifice this 😎ness for something less stressful and higher paying (with an equivalent upward trajectory). I’d think about what contributes better to your quality of life.

Who thinks this job is cool?

Then die a cool death bruh!

Cool? Who the hell thinks consulting is cool?

like

No one thinks consulting is cool. Rest assured.

First, NOBODY thinks about you. Even if it is, it is just not more than 5 secs.

How many times do you think about this for others. If your answer is too many / too long, you ain’t doing right.

I feel this. I am tired and burnt out but i dont have the guts to leave consulting. I love this paycheck and the consulting community and the thought of working with people who dont deliver at our pace is unbearable

Consulting isn’t cool. Who told you that? If you want a job that is cool, find one that you are truly passionate about and that makes you happy.

like

If I read this correctly, you’re a slave to people’s perception? Hear this from someone who’s been to both, if you’re not even in an MBB, you shouldn’t be proud of yourself and think you’re sexy or cool! 😉

No one perceives consulting as cool.

I’ve met zero people that think consulting is cool

So ..... you work a job based on what others think of you? Personally, I’d be a janitor if it paid well and if I was passionate about clean floors.. couldn’t care less if anyone felt I was in a cool job or not... your thought process seems unhealthy..

No one thought I was cool when I worked at Accenture. Now people only think I’m cool cause they believe I can get them a discount on a Tesla.

You telling me Tesla DOESN'T have a friends / family plan?

Who cares what other people perceive or think. Do what is best for you.

I went to a physical exam, the doctor suggested a bunch of tests. I said I only want to do preventative ones. He said one diagnostic test is about $300, so I agreed to take it. Because of this one diagnostic test, everything is billed as diagnostic. I got 2k medical bills for the visit, preventative tests and the aforementioned test. Is there anything I can do? I talked to insurance and doctor but they wont budge.
