Aren't you supposed to give everything all the time?

That is the easiest way to get burnt out and hate your life. If you are working 100hrs you are doing somethings awfully wrong. Hell, if you are working more than 60 you are also doing something wrong.

like

Your attitude towards work and work ethic should not change just because it's a promo year. That's the kind of stuff partners notice and will make you less appealing to them for promotion compared to someone who gives it their all every year

like

You don't.

like

That's reassuring, geez thanks for giving your all when you want something but what about the non promo years, you going to be mailing it in, think you need to re think your approach with your leadership channels

like

If they like you, they notice you. If not, well...🚪

Give everything for a company thats worth it, not EY

I remember a guy a few years back at milestones who was dead set on becoming a partner in 2-3 years, kind of the same passion or whatever you show op, found out he was let go in less than one year, sometimes that relentless drive can backfire, we are in the relationship business work on that and you'll be fine.

like

EY1 you know what i mean. Its different and the leadership knows that. The expectation is not to kill yourself which is what i am willing to do in order to not jeopardize the promo year

like

Sorry for you EY OP. Wish you best in life

like

Do not obsess over promotion, you only make your life hard. Do what you have to do..the rest will naturally follow.

like

Don't say you will give your all. Just do it

like

I mean, nights weekends etc. 100 hour work weeks. Traveling 100%. Doing crap work for sales. That kind of everything

EY2 ideally yes, but we know thats not how things work in real life. @S&1 agreed, please do not focus on the examples i gave, i was trying to prove a point. I am someone who can give it all if i can see the finish line at year end. @pwc1 i am passionate about consulting, just cant get my mind of the rat race and corporate ladder

Pwc1 i know what you are getting at and thank you

Ouch, thats is scary ey1. I have great client and ppedd relationships but i want to make it as clear as possible that i want this promotion next year

Are you trying to make manager or sr manager?

mgr

Hope you have a good track record. Be vocal about wanting to go to the next level. You really do need to sell yourself.

Honestly I'm also entering my promotion year and similar to each of the past few years I meet with PPEDs and Snr Mgrs from my group and ask as an M1, 2, or 3 what should I be focusing on if I want to get to Snr Mgr. the past few years those conversations have been really helpful. Will ultimately see after this coming perf year, but I'm optimistic. Don't need to kill yourself, just need to understand where your focus/priorities should be from your leadership.

In my spring review, I was told a central reason that I’m not yet ready for promotion centered around my need to develop more influence internally. Has anyone else, particularly women, received feedback like this? NB:I’ve been in a managerial role for several years at multiple agencies - and in current role, have been working significant overtime to tackle ad hoc projects, volunteering with ERG groups to lead and coach sessions, active participant/planner for social events, etc. since I joined

I currently work at a big start up and made a lateral move to another team a few months ago with five years experience. Since then , I’ve created a whole new service line and took over many of my managers duties. As I took a paycut to join this team - I’m pushing for a raise and title change. Is this reasonable?

I need to get a pulse check on my sanity... i live in Michigan, and sports gambling has become legal in the past year. Now every other commercial is about sports gambling, sports announcers are making in game advertisements, I get hit with social media ads, so on and so forth. I’m not against sports gambling, but the constant promotion seems like “corporate America” is taking advantage of addictive human tendencies, and contributing to the perpetuation of wealth inequality in America.. am I nuts

Money or Title? I say long term, title is more valuable cause you can hop in 15 months at a 40% raise.

I am in the process of transferring internally to EYP, but received an offer from a small/boutique financial consulting firm with a 30% bump in base comp (and a significant bonus at year end). I was never planning on staying in consulting for longer than a couple more years, but how much is the brand at EYP going to benefit me in the future vs a relatively unknown (but reputable) firm focusing on a niche market? I am extremely conflicted.
