My agency just promoted two white women to be CCOs. Yes, after all the diversity talk, two white women. They’ve pushed out, fired, or did a poor job of retaining POC since I’ve been here, but are doing a great job with the white higher up promotions.

I am burning out. My manager forgot her password for a program and blamed me. She said: how do you dare to change my password. I just have access to her account not her personal email. To change a password you need an email and a confirmation code because I am an average person, not a hacker. If I was a hacker I would have used that skill to do something better that change her password or look into her things tbh. I’m completing a masters program in data science and looking to transition from data analytics to data science. Is it too soon to apply for data science jobs before completing the degree?

I’m underpaid in my current role and want to move on sooner rather than later, as I was not able to negotiate a pay raise in my recent performance review (manager had great things to say but “couldn’t afford to pay me more”).

Should I keep my new job or boomerang back to my old job? The new job pays 50K more base, 25K more bonus and I get 40K a year consulting for the old job so around 115K difference in cash (not counting equity).

So why even consider going back to the old job? The new job keeps me busy 12+ hours a day while the old job is a coast at 1-2 hours a day max.

My idea is not to enjoy the free time and sit on *ss, but to figure out side gigs, passive income streams or even start a startup. (continued)

Update: Not sure if you saw my other post, but I've come clean to my girlfriend about my actual salary ($80K vs. the $270k I lied to her about). So, she asked for some time away to think about things, which is totally fair. She was shocked, disgusted, and disappointed. But I think I still have a chance. Anyways, just sharing because so many folks were giving me great advice. I've given her space and I'm heartbroken but I know it's for the best.

Is it realistic to switch to consulting and then come back to tech if it doesn't work out?
Have never done sales, so don't know if I'd want to stay in consulting or not long term - since those careers get more sales driven the higher you go
