Is your students behavior affecting his academic success? If so, in what ways? If you have access to the PRIM try the strategies in there and monitor his success. You can use the data you collect to make the case for a Sped referral from that

Yes it is. He is getting sent to the principals office and missing curriculum. He is also getting suspended for 3 days at a time. I will look into this. Thanks

What are your school policies on classroom parties (ie: Halloween, Xmas, Valentines)? Given increases to absences, school closures & teacher planning days, any in-person instructional time with students is crucial. I think we should try to avoid activities that aren’t part of curriculum. The Vday party is set & will happen. I also don’t like that is held in morning instead of end of day. It’s held on a short day so combined with recess & lunch, 1 hr party is a lot to take away from class time.

I think I need a place to vent anonymously. My district made the decision to have all remote learning through the first semester and teachers were given a choice to work from their classrooms or from home for the first quarter. Second quarter started on Monday and teachers were required to return to empty classrooms. Staff with school aged children are still teaching from home. That doesn’t feel right to me. What are others’ thoughts and experiences?

There are some benefits to distance learning. Not having to deal with the knuckleheads is one. Discipline and classroom management takes so much effort. However I still miss not being able to see my students in the classroom. I feel empty. And I hate teaching into a screen.
