Send them business. All will be forgiven.
Give ample notice and keep in contact! We have had a few boomerangs over the past few years and they all gave almost a month notice to help with the transition. Sending business also helps ☺️

I gave six weeks’ notice and worked hard during it. Was extremely grateful for my time there which was honest and let them know. Got a lot of thanks (including bonuses) and an offer to come back if things don’t work out for some reason.
One thing I’m concerned about is accidentally leaving on bad terms. The team is very busy right now and will likely continue to be busy for the next year. Also, one person on our team went on indefinite medical leave so we are already a little bit more short staffed than we would usually be. Don’t want to leave the team when they need people, but I also don’t want to continue to delay my own career goals.
I think if you give at least two weeks notice, express gratitude for your experience, have your matters in order for a smooth transition, and your in-house experience will be relevant to your current firm, they’d be willing to take you back.
