So you’re 29.
In two years, you’ll be 31.
Would you rather be 31 as an AE in cybersecurity, or 31 in your current role?
Sales is a second career for many people. Yeah, you’ll be sitting next to some 22 year olds, but there will be older people too.
You consider yourself mid career at 30? I’m mid career at 55. Take the job. You have a lot to learn and always will lol!
I don’t understand your issue. Is almost 30 old? I started an entry level position at 45 and I am doing great!
I’m thinking the same I’m 40 and just received a position as SDR. 30 is not old by any standards. That’s only 7 years out of college 🤣🤣
Mid-career job changes can be scary, but they can also be a great way to jumpstart your career. You're definitely not too old! Many people make successful career changes later in life. And climbing the ladder in tech sales is not that hard if you are patient and efficient
There is definitely enough salary potential in tech sales to make it worth your while if you are willing to work hard
I switched from recruiting to SDR role making 60k 4 years ago. After 1.5 years moved to another company as an AE making 120 OTE. Moved again after a year for 160k OTE and currently at 120% of plan.
Bottom line it can be done. I’m 32 now.
I don’t think you need an MBA for tech sales, though it’s not unpopular for people to have them. I’m an Enterprise AE making $300k+ OTE and I didn’t finish college. I’ve also hired and trained sales people. In my opinion, it takes an openness to grow, be coachable, grit and determination. Refine your skills, put numbers on the board, think about your team, you’ll be a sought after sales person.
I started as a bdr in December 2019 as a 29 year old making 45k.
feb 2021 I started my first closing position and in the first year I made 160k+
This week I just turned 31, and have already exceeded my earnings from last year.
It’s never too late to start over.
Almost 30? That's still young if you ask me. I started on an entry level for my dream job at the age of 35. I am almost 40 and I am doing great. Do what your guts is telling you.
It is definitely possible to make a switch to tech sales later in your career. I know several people who have done it and have had success. The key is to be willing to start at the bottom and work your way up. It may be challenging at first, but it will be worth it in the end.
I’m in tech moving to AE next week. Get your mindset right, you will learn so much as an SDR and you can use that to get promoted to account manager or account executive at your current company or take a nice pay jump and move to a new company. Big yes from me boss
I started as an SDR when I was 25, was promoted to Account Executive 6 months into the role. If you continuesly overachieve your quota, you can move up fast in tech sales.
I am leading an AE team now 2 years later.
I switched at 36, and as of tomorrow I'm getting promoted to AE.
I was already on target to break 100k as an SDR.
I switched from Retail and Landscape Supply.
Anything is possible. I know a lot of people who transitioned even in their late 30s and they were successful. You can do it too.
If you don’t mind me asking, how long have you been in real estate? I’m an agent and looking to pivot to bdr sales and take the ladder as well
I’ve been wondering what management looks like in commercial real estate. Is it property management?
I made a career switch at 31, I was the youngest in my first SDR job. I’m now 33 and will make over $100k this year as an SDR at a cybersecurity/data company. There’s no way I would be seeing this much money at this point in my career or life if I hadn’t made the switch. Do itttt
Just to clarify, I didn’t make $100k at my first SDR job. I made a good $40k & was doing 125 dials a day. It was literal hell but I knew I had to do it
Worth the short term sacrifice
You can do this!!! You’re not too old and you bring valuable experience to the table.
Needed to see this post. I’m on the same boat
I was 26 and a director at a property management public company. Took an SDR role and about to get promoted to a closing role. No regrets at all. The past year salary wise has been hard and sucked. But enough upside to make it worth it.
Working with 22/23/24 year olds is also highly entertaining IMO.
We started our business in 2012, I'm 54 no regrets!
I used to manage Kay Jewelers!
