I’m a young partner at an AmLaw200. We’ve had a lot of turnover lately, so many of my friends are gone and my cyclical practice has slowed. It’s made things extremely depressing, so I started interviewing. I received an in house offer at a large company, but it’s the lowest counsel position. I’d be a relatively large base pay cut, but if I hit bonus targets comp would be similar. Should I just keep looking? Seems silly to take a large pay cut, but the office is extremely depressing. For a principal software engineer at 29 with 8 YOE and 5 years of consulting experience, is $180K base with $25K stock and $18K bonus good?

I live in a HCoL area (avg household income in my zip is $129K) and I see people here with MASSIVE comp packages…I wonder if I’m asking for too little.

I exited to industry from consulting last year and when I was applying, my range was $180-210K and 1/2 of the companies I applied to said that was on the higher-end.

How do I turn down an offer while giving some room for negotiation? I would only accept the offer if they offered concessions far beyond what I think they would do. Do I just send an email saying that I’m turning down the offer and tell them why so that if they really want me, they can address the concerns and offer me a better deal? This is my first time negotiating an offer (college offer did not allow any negotiation, despite my best efforts) so appreciate any advice.

A few of my colleagues were promoted to the same level as me. We were open about our salaries and I discovered I’m making 2k less despite the fact I have a degree (the others do not), have greater responsibilities and more experience in role. Was promoted to Principle System Engineer in December 2021 (Technical Band 3) and went from 81k to 98k. Our company has experienced significant attrition (13 engineers down to 4 engineers within 6 months) so a few months ago my director bumped me up to 110k based on me being a top performer in 2021 end of year review. I am grateful for the pay increase, but all of the coworkers who left have found positions that provide significantly higher pay. Am I being underpaid for my work?

I honestly cannot remember if I told an employer that I accepted an offer from that I resigned from my most recent employer. During the interview process, it was a panel style interview and we hopped straight into the questions and job responsibilities etc. After the interviews, I did not proactively disclose that I resigned. I ended up accepting the offer and now I’m going through a background check. The company will obviously see that I’m no longer employed. Should I write an email explaining?

Currently a supervisor for a large hospital making 57k. Applied for internal position for EPIC (EMR system) trainer. 3 interviews went well. Although a new role for me, I have 15 years management/training experience; 2.5 with this hospital. Glassdoor lists the average pay at 79.5k for this particular role and my particular hospital. What salary should I ask for? I’m afraid of being low balled since I’m an internal transfer. TIA
