Hey, don’t mean to come off as overly critical, but I think your mindset is a bit off. If you lack technical skills, go learn them. Nothing is off limits (or even particularly expensive anymore). YouTube, data camp, pet projects, side gigs, etc. Don’t wait for the world to teach you, current job included. Don’t allow your future to be at the mercy of your environment. Will yourself to your goals.

You are correct , I was giving interview in industry and VP in industry role told me hard to find people from consulting since consulting people only know about ppt

What are they asking? I’ve only gotten tested on excel and powerpoint

You're doomed if you think Microsoft Office is technical, lol.

Microsoft Office is very technical!

Look for different exits? There are a ton of jobs that don’t require technical knowledge, but if you’re limiting yourself to those jobs, go learn SQL or Python. It’ll take you some time but if you dedicate an hour a day to it for a few months you can be competitive.

Colleague gets a job at Foley & Lardner and is told months after starting that he needs to bill 200 more hours for his practice group than what the firm requires. He wasn't told during interviews. He barely made the time. I now may have the opportunity to lateral and I'm worried that may happen to me (different practice group). How do I ask? And, is this common at @foleyandlardner? What the heck?

What is the extent of details revealed in a background check? If I left voluntarily vs was let go - does that show up in a background check? Long leave of absence say 6 months (health or parental leave or just personal leave) - does that show up? Which specific teams I worked with or what kind of projects I worked on? Past promotion dates?

Big 4 fish, how do you handle independence reporting for your bf/gf? My bf works at a big 4 firm as a consultant (not audit) and from their vague definition, I qualify as a "spousal equivalent." He's always worried that he could theoretically get fired if he didn't report me and they found out about our relationship, but we definitely don't want to go through the process, especially considering I'd have to sell most of my stocks as they're restricted. Is there really a risk to not reporting me??
