I am underpaid as an ACD. Took this job to get out of a bad situation. I was on PiP in December partially because I was struggling mentally and with family issues but have been crushing it since. How long until I can ask for a raise without having my struggles thrown in my face?

Ask whenever you feel like you deserve more. If they throw your struggles back in your face, is that really a place you wanna be at anyways?

I think you should ask yourself how long you can go underpaid without impacting your financial goals and mental health. That’s probably the time frame you should allow yourself before asking.

@SD1... Sounds like you plateaued. Time to get out.

How did you get off the PiP?

Prove to them you are underpaid based on the market you are in and your experience level. Use third party sources. Yes the pandemic has depressed salaries but they are picking back up. Show them how you have grown, become better and overcame your past struggles. Have you learned new skills, taken on more responsibilities? Make sure your definition of crushing it is aligned with their definition of it. Use tangible proof, get fellow employees you worked with on your team and other depts to give you an informal 360 review or some good feedback in an email, maybe even from clients as well. Did you do anything that actually improved performance, gotten results, better workflow etc? Build your case with as much proof as possible with tangible results. Validate everything you did will not only help you possibly get a raise/promotion from your current agency, it will help you in your job hunt if they don’t give you one. It’s all material to be use on your resume and interviews.

What’s PiP? Sorry, I’m not familiar with the term.

Ah, got it, thanks.

How long have you been in the role?

So that would be the ‘normal’ time to ask for a raise but with the PIP it will probably set things back. How long have you been off the PIP (I know you said you got put on it in Dec. but do you have it in writing that you’re off of it now? I think some of the usual guidelines would apply. I agree with what others said about documenting the specific ways you are crushing it – winning pitches, selling in campaigns, and a team that enjoys working with you. And setting the stage that you are looking to be compensated for all of those things. Your bosses are going to want to know this isn’t a blip, and that you can continue to deliver at this level eg. You had a bad quarter and that is fixable but they also are going to want to know it won’t happen again.

Don't ask for a raise straight up. Ask for more responsibility and the necessary steps for a promotion. You've killed it to get out of the wood, but they won't know your ambitions unless you announce it. I've never waited for a raise or promotion to happen. I challenged my superiors to give me opportunities to prove my abilities and worth are beyond my current role at the time. You do that. Raises will happen.

Do other firms pay UG campus hires more than campus hires from the previous year, even accounting for their raise? Ex: 2019 Campus hire starts at 70k, raise to 75k after year 1; 2020 Campus hire starts at 76k. Or is this just a Deloitte thing?

I just started at a new company 2 months ago with the expectation of having 3-4 people on my team. However, my team size will be increasing to 7. I don’t really want to rock the boat so early at my new job especially since I’m still in the “drinking from the firehose” phase, but this is going to be a significant increase in responsibility. We only have pay review in January of each year. Would it be crazy to ask about a raise later this month?

I’m curious what the opinions are on the process they have seen or used to get promoted. I’ve never had it happen in my career this way but in my mind, your work speaks for itself, you advocate for yourself, ask for a promotion when it’s not been offered. Then you get promoted after you make your case if you do qualify. The way I’ve seen it (& a reason I’m leaving my current company) is where they only promote people when they’ve threatened to leave or received a different offer. Thoughts?

How do you respond to "What do you want to do?", asked asked by a partner? I joined consulting as part of an acquisition, never really wanted this career. I honestly just want to make money and get promoted for the experience. I've really enjoyed my time at a B4 and have learned a ton but am not partner track. Is it bad to admit I'm not looking to make partner? Will that hurt my promotion to manager chances? Do I need to tell him something more specific than "I want to make manager?"

We have our nanny a 10% pay raise in September to mark her two year anniversary with us (amounted to something like $2.50 more per hour). We were expecting (I was seven months pregnant at the time) and I told her it was (1) annual raise but (2) would also cover the fact that she’d be taking care of another baby. This morning she asks us whether we can talk about her raise now that she’ll be watching an extra kid. I awkwardly was like “well that’s what the prior raise covers” and she (contd)
