Sorry to be blunt. But it’s easier to strike lottery than to get into VC especially in these times. Even under normal times it’s a very closed industry either you have an M7 MBA or you know someone on the first degree.

While this is true, I broke into growth stage VC from IBM. Anything is possible. Try to think about it from a long term perspective and how you can add value to the fund, then start working towards breaking in. It’s a long journey.

Networking and diving in deep. While it’s tough to get VC, it’s also in some ways anyone’s game - there’s not a particular resume or experience that does it. I had a few VC interviews during my last cycle and I know several people at 2 firms who did (including a few at IBM - 👋 C1).

what's your profile?

I’m not in tech or VC but maybe an MBA isn’t even necessary. Was it a quant or engineering MSc? Perhaps that might be enough... Also, maybe look up fellow alumni who are in tech or VC on LinkedIn and setup a call with them to network?

How should someone go about making a transition from consulting to tech? . MBA good college, tech background (all consulting/mostly implementation and tech strategy), big 4, entrepreneur (non-tech) had successful exit. Almost no network at tech and very well networked in consulting. Need somewhat senior role( who cares) but need at least $350K. Need to be much more for high cost areas.

Does getting a M7 MBA basically limit you to living in an expensive city to get a ROI? I look at places in Dallas, Austin, Phoenix, Vegas, Atlanta, Miami and the pay for roles requiring a MBA is low.
