I am working for a CRO in USA and a current base salary of USD 100K. I am moving to Canada this fall and the company approved an internal transfer to the Canada office. However, they offered me CAD 105K (much less than what I currently make). How do I discuss this with HR to see if they would be willing to pay me the same as my USA salary. Any comments or advice?

Thanks.

Wouldn’t count on it, unless you’re working for a US office remotely from Canada. Canadian salaries are always and will always be a good chunk lower.

Is the new Canada offer related to the cost of living? I’d make HR aware of the pay difference and advise that the pay change affects my household finances, also asking about equivalent pay for the transfer. Best of luck on your move

The state and fed tax laws make you a Canadian employee. You can try, but it will be a long shot.

i suggest staying in US, job market is better with higher salary and lower living cost (way lower)

ok, but remember canadian tax maybe higher too so your take home pay will be much lower after factoring that too.

but also factor in other benefits like health care, family, etc.

How do you apply for a job in the CRO in canada

This is always a tricky situation because there are various factors to consider

Yes $100k in USD is not equal to $105 CAD but…

Canada has universal healthcare. USA does not. How much are you currently paying in insurance and taxes in USD?

Secondly, what location in Canada are you relocating to? If the cost of living is cheaper then that is something to think about.

Finally, are they paying any legal fees on behalf of you? That is something to consider as well.

Regardless of these factors, I will definitely ask the HR if a match is possible? If not, ask them whether they could support you in offering extra stock options or perks.

It is definitely worth asking.

Hi comp advice please! my wife is making a pivot into brand management / account exec roles at ad agencies. Glassdoor is kinda helpful for comp estimates but all over the place. For an nyc role (just above entry level, like Brand Manager at BBDO) what’s a reasonable comp range for her to tell HR she’s looking for? Feels like $90-100k? Thanks for your thoughts/examples! Fwiw she has 10 yrs experience in other fields like real estate.
