Hi Amazonians. Can you share the work culture in Retail tech team or in Amazon in general. I've received an SDE1 offer. I have other offers from Microsoft and Goldman Sachs as well. I am really confused between Amazon and Microsoft. All the people I've talked to have said to take the Microsoft offer. Please share your thoughts. Thanks.

It’s not just Amazon - most industry isn’t particularly interested in giving manager roles to people who are still light managers in public.
Especially now. F100s aren’t dumb - they know that public’s standards have gotten really light over the past year or two and a number of managers are really SAs with manager titles for the first year (or even two).
For realistic advice - how many years do you have at the manager level? If it’s two plus you might get some traction - you’re not going to with just one.
I would think even with two year as manager Amazon would not do it. I had interviewed with Amazon before and recruiter told me even some SM got downgraded to SA.
How many years of experience you currently have as a manager ? Amazon or any other FAANG companies would not take someone as a manager unless they have few years of experience already at that level.
Amazon does this all the time. Unless you are near senior manager, you will be offered senior. Pay will be more than experienced manager at public accounting. They also go by their internal levels so you want to know if this is level 5 or 6.
Also, I would be more interested in pay. If they may me manager level salary, I would be more than happy to do SA work.

If you don't have experience as a manager in a top company/Big4 that likely sets you back. If the pay is good why not do the couple years as senior and get the promo?

I only have one year in PA and get senior accountant offers all the time… so definitely push back with all that experience
It doesn’t work like that in Fanny, you can’t get senior in Amazon when you are a staff at big 4

Google is like this as well. If you plan to be there for several years it’s fine.
What’s their reasons ?
I don’t think it’s a slam dunk that someone with 2 years at a manager could convince them, but at that point it will be a lot of what have you actually done. At one, I think it’s just a flat no.

Amazon and many bug tech company do give this downgrade of level across the board. A manager in accounting gets to be their senior, and senior manager there becomes manager. You can try to push back but it’ll be hard. In my view, as long as the pay is there (which usually is), and you are not planning to leave soon to need that manager title, still give it a shot.
