Hey everyone! Second year Deloitte analyst and I’ve been interviewing elsewhere, like many others. Just got told from the recruiter that I will be getting an offer from Apple as a Program Manager in San Jose (big jump lol). Right now I’m living in a MCOL city working remote, but I would need to move for this role (eventually lol).
Any ideas on comp, living costs, etc. would be greatly appreciated. I’ve never been out to San Jose or San Francisco, so I’d appreciate any advice or DMs of any sort! Deloitte

Bonus also has to be repaid if you leave within 1 year (possibly 2 depending on amount). Base is a sure thing and helps into the future. It’s possible that they found it easier to push you up a cohort than to get approval for additional bonus.
Bonus is better for up front payment. But base had more advantages in my opinion - it is the basis for 401(k) matches, standard / inflation pay rises, on target bonus payments, baseline for future moves, annual payment vs. one-time, etc
What half a clown show reverse psychology recruiting team are you working thru?
HR is tired of candidates rejecting their offers as well. I have seen less games these days. Things are changing for the better. Offer the highest you can, to get the candidate to make it a no regrets decision, reduce % of attrition
Take the 10k increase in base, it’s the better offer now and in the long run.
Always take base increase. Your bonuses in the future will be more because of it.
10k in base is MUCH better, especially if you plan on staying at least two years lol
Huge IF these days…
This is why it’s MBB and not MBBP

Bonuses do not get taxed more. They are withheld at a higher rate and you are refunded when you file.
Of course getting a bonus could push you into a higher tax bracket and effective tax rate than you would have been in without the bonus. But that’s a first world problem.
I hope you aren’t doing any finance related projects for your clients….
Wow this company is doing you a favor!

Is this rhetorical?
Did they make a mistake?! 😯 $10K on base IS A MUCH BETTER DEAL than $10K bonus. You must be bringing something they truly want. Take it and run!
Technically $10k today is better than $10k tomorrow
A good point…the OP was canned for stupidity, so it was a legit question.
Yes, tho not sure how anybody has to ask this question
Sir. Are u ok?
Crazy how some people on here think. The IRS does not know nor care whether income is a base or a bonus or money from your grandma’s knitting business. Income is income. If it’s taxed higher you get it back. $10k on base is obviously better than $10k on a bonus because you’ll get that $10k every year. Seems obvious….
To a certain degree (I.e., they don’t differentiate for income from payroll but do for capital gains)
Always take base over bonus
Coach
Either you are not serious or they are not serious
They thought you said “base” . It’s the only reasonable ask .. who asks for more money in bonus ? That’s extra money for the IRS .
Company withholds from bonus payroll. Don’t forget to alert the 401k folks if you want them to take out money from your bonus
Is this a real question? 🤣
If you have to ask this question you are in the wrong biz. Base increase is always better
i had same thing happen and 10k on salary is 100 times better because it’s permanent you’ll get more $$$ Bonus almost half goes to taxes
10k salary is better because of perpetuity.
Ignore A2 on taxes. They don't understand how taxes work.
