Can my SO (a doctor) choose to no longer see unvaccinated patients for healthcare checkups? Absolutely! It’s his individual freedom and right to a healthy life. Expect to be turned away by medical professionals too who are exhausted soon.
OP. There is no government mandate that an individual be vaccinated. It is a mandate on employers. Think of OSHA rules. You can go to an elevated location with no safety harness not wear safety glasses. Lock out tag out equipment. You as an individual are free to do as you please. However employers are responsible for employee safety. No difference here.
We keep bringing up individual freedoms like this isn’t a public issue. We share the same medical resources. We all depend on the same hospitals.
I had to read SA1’s post three time just to soak in how deeply offensive and selfish it is.
Yeah, if you refuse to get vaccinated against a now-somewhat preventable illness in the middle of a deadly global pandemic, putting others in your community at risk… you definitely are less deserving of one of those urgent care beds.
You may still get it, but you’re probably taking that bed from someone with an emergency they couldn’t have prevented.
It’s happening, and it’s disgusting.
MD is dead on, you have been required to get vaccines to go to school for over 30 years. Where was your outrage then? Or was that before Tucker Carlson was whispering in your ear?
Polio vaccine was tested for one year.

You guys need to understand individual freedom is exact just that. I understand the public interest argument, and most of us (including me) are sick of the prolonged pandemic because people refuse to get vaccinated. But this is their choice and we have to respect that.
A better solution in my opinion is to let the anti-vaxxers own their own consequences - either that means increased healthcare cost insurance won’t pay for or increased insurance premium. But requiring all federal employees to get vaccinated is definitionally infringement on individual liberty.
Look at how many hospitalizations are vaccinated vs unvaccinated. The issue isnt cases at this point, it's overflowing ERs
Isn’t MMR vaccine similarly ‘required’ in almost all states?
Yes. People acting like vaccine mandates are some big new infringement on rights almost all have a slew of childhood vaccines that they were required to get before starting elementary school.
This mandate is absolutely necessary to get the pandemic under control and is 100% justifiable. What about my individual freedom to a healthy life protected from unvaccinated folks? What about my daughter’s right to good health who is ineligible to be vaccinated at the moment? What happens if she has a serious health issue and cannot get a bed at the hospital because they are full? We should not have to live out our lives like hermits because people are unwilling to get the vaccine. It is absolutely ridiculous that people are continuing to die and strain our healthcare system when there is a free, safe, effective and accessible solution to this pandemic.
The vaccine will not get the pandemic under control… you can still get and spread Covid if you’re 100% vaccinated. The vaccine lowers your personal hospitalization rate, which is already low unless you’re older and immunocoompromised. I look at data and past pandemics (Influenza) which suggests that natural immunity and a mix of vaccinations for the higher risk population is the only way to get this under control. Just note that influenza has existed for over 100 years, we had many variations of the original vaccination and boosters. We still lose 40-60k lives a year to the Flu. The vaccination should never be a requirement, it should be up to the individual as it’s a personal health choice. I had Covid a few weeks ago, turned out to be common cold like, I have natural immunity now and would argue that being healthy, young, and already exposed to the virus is just as or more effective as someone getting the vaccine.
The US government is not mandating vaccination.
Hah Deloitte 3 with the infantile "No, you are!"
That’s nice, but there are vaccine mandates in schools and those have been around for decades, so… tough luck?
We’re 18 months into this, and people still don’t understand….🙄 we’ll never get out of this will we.
BCG, I am not sure where the disconnect is…. but I don’t understand why you think this infringes on individual freedom. What do you mean by “set a bad precedent” ?
The US government has tremendous authority over public health. And mandated vaccine are not new.
The first mandatory vaccine was 1850 (according to google). If you read typhoid Mary story’s you can see the power in action. She was in prison (quarantined) multiple times. The government told her what jobs she could and could not do. She was forbidden to work as a cook.
Read about the history of polio outbreaks in the 1950s and government’s various reactions. The second a polio vaccine was available, it became mandatory.
If you don’t like the rules, you are free to quit or wait to be fired. No one has chained you to your computer.
Man, it took a pandemic to realize how many constitutionalist doctor scientists we have in the consulting community. Honored to be breathing the same COVID-laden freedom air as you all. #blessed
ok. And?
Exactly.
Newsflash, there are a LOT of govt mandates we follow every day.
Can also let the doctors choose who they treat and who they don’t. Freedom, after all!
