Can someone share a sample mail format to extend the tcs joining date? What are all the reasons that can be given for extending the joining date? My real reason is I have another offer in a product based company with doj 10 Oct while my DOJ with tcs is 28th Sep . Planning to extend the tcs joining date to be on the safer side if there were any issues in joining the product based company Infosys Tata Consultancy Newco
My job matters cause it pays my bills, don’t pull people down because they value their work more than you
Neat
I’m a guardian of the capital markets. Don’t know about what you do, but that sounds pretty bad ass to me
You're doing it wrong
I struggle with this idea many times. We clearly aren’t doctors, or nurses, or teachers. Without a doubt, many jobs serve a better public good than ours. In many ways, we serve the wealthy, which makes it only harder to see the good in what we do. But, you need to try to see it that we do help people, even if they are generally well off money wise, and people do depend on us
It’s okay, it’s immaterial
- probably her as well
It's roundabout, but really almost all retirement accounts rely on audited financials. If the system did not have checks and balances, investing would be near impossible.
Likewise in tax, it seems like corporations benefit the most from what we do - but corporations are owned by people, most of which are in investment accounts which many people rely on.
You don't understand. I mean the CEO said that due to the pandemic, providing investor confidence is more important than ever. Our overlords wouldn't lie like that to us, right?
😞
You don't think investor confidence is important?
Well, accountants used to be a job within the IRS. So I’d say we do some public goods.
It’s a very stable paycheck. That’s what matters.

i think it’s a bit more complicated than just saying it doesn’t matter at all.
If I look at the mental toll it takes on the people around me- the work doesn’t matter. I’d rather they are happy and take care of themself.
But if you think of it as a part of a larger check/balances system - it definitely does matter. There is a foreign company that went public on us stock exchange and recently went from a $12 billion valuation to $1 million. they discovered that the company has been hugely overstating their revenues. Fictitious sales and purchases, related party transactions - things that as auditors we check for. Loss of jobs and loss of trust. Markets will recover etc. and this is only one company. But what if there were more?
This is not a defense of the audit profession. In the end this is just our job and livelihood right. We’re not “saving lives” but we can do our best to use the resources that we do have to grow and help ourselves and each other.
The mere existence of us matters, our work on a fraudulent or completely lost client matters. Other than that it’s like a circuit breaker for a tiny lamp, barely get used...it’s a job that pays. I only get motivated by tricking myself into thinking that I’m just helping partners who I respect and truly care about me
I'm now curious to know what you think of your work? Does it matter? If not, why are you still here?
Probably still here cuz it's a relatively easy job and it pays the bills. Doesn't mean you have to treat your job like it's life or death.
For me it was the video they showed at the town hall that basically equated our work to storming d day. KPMG WAS THERE!!!!
