You’re resilient and you can do anything. It may not feel like it. Tell yourself you can’t blink your eyes, then blink your eyes. Tell yourself you can’t lift you arm, then lift your arm. This reminds your brain that thoughts are not facts.

I love this as well! Thank you associate 1

Why today? Let’s talk it out. I bet there are many others feeling the same things today and if we vent it’ll bring some relief

I genuinely can’t do this job a minute longer. I have accepted the fact that I won’t be able to find another job that I would like given my YoE and visa situation. I feel like I just don’t have what it takes to live in this country and I’m, so, tired.

like

Same situation here, I feel your pain. There are days I have panic attacks about all this and on other days I’m like “screw it, who cares” and try not to overthink/worry. Take it one day at a time, none of us can control the future so let’s deal with problems as they arise and not create them in advance.

like

Hey there! Drop whatever is the source of your problem right now. Your health comes before everything. Take a break. I'd request you to seek therapy. Professional guidance can work wonders.
Something that has worked well for me is to connect and reconnect with friends and family. I'd no idea that I'd feel markedly better if I share my issues with my close ones.
I'm here to connect and listen as well if you ever feel like.
Take care. This too shall pass.

A coworker got me a bracelet that says “you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think.” It’s from Winnie the Pooh and really helpful.

Close your eyes, imagine a monkey on a motorcycle wearing a white hat. Did you see it? That proves you can “control” your thoughts, you can do it, just break it down to little steps.

Take a personal day tomorrow. Decompress and reassess. Then decide whether you could use some time off, use some of those unlimited vacation days!

It’s not bc of busy season. I’ve been wanting an out (and have made multiple attempts). This is not a rushed decision. Anyways

I’m in a similar boat as you. on a visa and have been feeling trapped in this situation for the past 3 years. I’m waiting to quit within the next few weeks weeks. Which means leaving the country too.
I wish you all the best no matter where you go next!

I would also suggest to take a day off (I know it’s the middle of busy season for most, but your mental health comes first). Find a good audio book or maybe even a quick Ted talk to listen to that could help you get out of your thoughts for a bit and go from there. Like a lot of people said- thoughts are not facts! And check in with us tomorrow on how you’re doing.

I feel you as well. I don’t want to do this work anymore. No matter how much I try to change my mindset, it is still tough.

I’m depressed. Nothing unique about my depression - I’m in big law, my career defines me, when I’m not working I can’t find the will to get off the couch, I’m sad or I’m numb…I know I’m the only one that can make a change to my life…I’m on antidepressants. Just extremely unmotivated and paralyzed. Self-help books are not for me, but I am curious - has anyone tried a guided depression/anxiety journal? Any recommendations if so? Or, if you have experienced the same, what steps did you take?
