I can’t help but feel that the partners in my practice have already decided who they’re investing in to help develop and promote—and it doesn’t include me. I’m a high performer and well-liked, but I see other people at my level and above still get preferential treatment and I think this is hindering promotion. My only solution is to find an exit to another firm. Has anyone else been in this situation and also found their only way to solve this was to leave?

Don’t waste your career working for people who won’t invest in you as a first option. Leave.

Partners are dime a dozen. Move on if you feel like you’re not getting the support.

I had the same feeling ... I felt I had to work twice as hard as the others to get noticed and appreciated by the management. Then I started to look around

I have had ups and downs. Thd question is can you find another group if partners to work with. This is a tough time to transition, i think the economy will boom in 2022, but fir now. It may mske more sense yo see what us available within your current firm

Yeah, I've had to leave in the past. If you're a high performer, with good written and verbal feedback, but not getting promoted, there is something beyond your control there. Particularly if you're trying to get mentorship and people aren't willing and/or if you're asking how to get promoted or why you didn't and they aren't able to give you a direct response. There is no reason why a proactive high performing shouldn't be promoted ahead of schedule. Just be very honest with yourself and confirm if you are a true high performer relative to your role and firm.

How long have you been with the firm? Sometimes it takes awhile to get noticed, particularly in my case as I did a bit of work outside of my team's generic offering. Eventually got picked up, and have been promoted twice in 3 years (1 during covid). If you've been there longer than 1.5 years I'd try move, but be mindful no guarantee it wont be the same elsewhere. Is there anything else keeping you at your firm? I.e. interesting and relevant projects, good wlb etc.

Getting promoted is about advocacy. It’s doesn’t always have to be from those who n your direct reporting line. You can also find advocates elsewhere in your firm. Sometimes they can help you get promoted where you’re sitting and sometimes you have to move closer to them. But think about developing a broader network within your firm in addition to jumping ship.

I’m a high performer and I got delayed promotion, so I guess I’m in the same bucket with you. The diff is I’m very insensitive about this and I didn’t have your feelings until very late (didn’t get promoted in the year of expected). What caused you to have the feeling? Can you give a few examples? I need to learn. Highly appreciate.

I recently proactively met with the partners in my practice to talk about my goals and how well they align with the practice. We talked through how I can support them while developing my street cred in some areas that align with the business they are pursuing. If you want sponsorship, you have to talk to them about how you can increase their revenue.

Coming back to D in October after LOA. During that LOA, I was approached by other firms, and received 3 offers. Do I contact my coach and let him know that I would like to stay but received different offers and I want to know if Deloitte can match them?

Need ethics/moral help from my fellow 🐟 I got laid off from ACN earlier this year. I accepted an offer and started at a boutique consulting firm exactly one month ago today. This morning, I got an email from Deloitte recruiting for the same position I’m in now, which is where I want to develop my career. Part of me wants a break from the big consulting firms, but at the same time, going to a Big 4 would feel more at home to me. Is it worth entertaining the offer, or should I just stay away?

Serious question: Why’d we have to migrate our network logins to FCB Health in addition to our emails? Couldn’t we have just started listing our emails as “@fcbhealth” but logging in as “@FCB”? Our old emails instantly forward to our current ones, so I don’t see why it couldn’t be the other way.
