I can't stand any of you. FB is a profession based forum, so keep it professional. Half the junk on here has nothing to do with Mgmt Consulting and is just trolling. Both sides of BLM are important, but link it to our profession or find another venue.
Can we acknowledge that racism / sexism / discrimination against any group is bad? I understand that black lives matter is a group promoting awareness of the specific form of racism they face, but they do not have a monopoly on creating awareness. As a non-black minority, why is black racism a greater priority than racism directed towards my ethnic group?
That's the whole point of BLM, D2. That's why I can't stand people like you, because you're too dumb to understand it.
OP needs to take a chill pill
Amen
I can't stand people who don't understand that racism won't end racism: https://twitter.com/jilliankaym/status/758077214084698112
I can't stand people who can't stand people that say that ALL LIVES MATTER. It's just stupid to say one's life matters and not the other's.
Can't stand EY1 because s/he clearly has no idea what racism is. And I'd bet my life EY1 is white.
As requested, relating it to our profession here as management consultants like to offer opinions based on facts/data, as much as possible. The problem with BLM is that there certainly are problems to solve and issues to address, but they choose to focus on a very narrow narrative. If you'd believe them, you'd think all agents are racist, where in part they are doing exactly what any management consultant would advice them: if you can't solve the whole problem, focus efforts where they have most impact. As long as crime rates are (way) higher in a certain group for long periods of time, they SHOULD be in focus more than others - doing the opposite is ludicrous. If you control for that, there is no evidence across thousands and thousands of arrests that they are actually structurally mistreating any population group - regardless which one. I actually downloaded US homicides and violence rates for decades back, and data-driven the conclusion is exactly the opposite: the absolutely overwhelming majority of violence/murders are indeed "racist", but the other way around: white-white, black-black, and Hispanic-hispanic. So focusing on a few nicely captured police shootings really takes the focus away from where thousands and thousands of instances of violence happen every day. And in the process the movement has undeniably fueled some of the most recent cases where police was targeted. I'm not saying that BLM is not important, they are just focused too much on what generates front page news rather finding structural solutions to the overwhelming majority of the problems.
Not sure we'll reach agreement here... It is totally OK for BLM to care about BL - naturally. Only problem I'm having is that that's not really what they care about - they care about the black lives killed by whites (or that is at least what they talk about 99% of the time). Having grown up as a black woman in an overwhelmingly black neighborhood, no stranger to violence, that seems damned obvious to me, and wouldn't solve any of the problems I grew up with.
Geeeeez simmer down over there lil buddy
Black lives matter. What a joke. Losers.
Dear EY1 and D1: you are part of the problem. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oW8piEF9Lhc
I can't stand people (from either side of the argument) that think a hashtag is going to make things better. If you want to make things better, go out, learn the facts, and take action. Reach across the aisle. Understand where the other side's stance comes from, and think of a way to fix it. This is what MLK did, and he got results like few others in our history have done. Going off the deep end and being so set in stone in your ways that you can't open your mind won't solve anything. Does that truly make you any better than them?
It started as a hashtag. A statement now. You're welcome to get caught up in the semantics, but what I said remains the same. Substitute statement for hashtag in my post.
That's exactly the attitude that pisses me off. You just ignore a massive problem and dismiss people who do care because you don't have to deal with it yourself.
"I must make two honest confessions to you, my Christian and Jewish brothers. First, I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to “order” than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: “I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action”; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man’s freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a “more convenient season.” Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection."
-Martin Luther King Jr.
You're right, OP. Segregation isn't racist. I can't believe someone can disagree with the statement, "racism won't end racism." That's the most backwards mindset I've ever heard.
No lets yell at each other Weeeeeee
D4 when you control for other factors like geography, socio economic status and crime there is no evidence that black people are killed by cops at a higher rate, not evidence that unarmed black people are killed at a higher rate.
