Remember when we all survived doing...NON VIDEO conference calls. Jesus. What a brown noser. “Look at meeeeeee I am soooooo productive with my cameraaaaa onnnnn.”

And I’d rather be a brown noser than have to go back to the office full time.
they hated him for he spoke the truth
No ❤️
Tell us why, goddammit.
I don’t understand why this is getting attacked so much. Yes maybe it could have been phrased in a less fearful way, but the point is valid. All of the comments pushing back on this - you know OP isn’t speaking for your agency and has no power over what happens to you. They are providing a valid POV on what could help your case if you want to remain remote. Why is that toxic?
Even with my camera on it doesn't mean i'm listening.

Hard same

To be clear. I want to stay remote forever, but I also know that out of sight / out of mind isn’t going anywhere.

I like that everyone’s fighting this so they’ll force us to go back. Wfh sucks.
I agree WFH sucks (for me)
I agree @OP, it bridges the gap between in person and virtual. I’ll be honest, I’m not a huge fan of video calls, but as a leader I know it’s the right approach to instill both confidence and a sense of normalcy. Dare I say, I miss seeing my team?
Culture is a HUGE aspect of normalizing cameras. Try to encourage teams to bring their whole self to work—so your background isn’t perfect, kids/pets may come in view, or might have “COVID hair” etc. Celebrate these aspects and folks will feel more comfortable turning cameras on.
Start by having 1:1s on video, and grow from there. I’d also adjust expectations for client meetings, with input from each of the account leads.
Personally, I find it easier to connect over video. I can read body language, and see that you’re invested in the meeting vs. multitasking or making a sandwich LOL.
Lastly, when starting to instill a cultural change, it might help fo put “Video” in the meeting title. But quickly move away from prescribing and leave teams to self manage.
I'm pro "keep the camera on," but anti "bring your whole self to work." It's a job. I'm bringing my work self, so the rest of me doesn't get tainted if/when things aren't going well at work.
Fix Microsoft Teams first. I literally turn mine off because it slows everything down.
It is straight up basura.
Camera on > camera off. Just buy a bong that fits under your desk and accept that everyone already knows you’re kinda stoned. I did, and let me tell you, it’s quite liberating.
People have requested that I keep my camera off actually.
I do not want to work from home any more. Let it be over. Send me back to the office now!

Here’s something that makes it look like you’re paying attention on a video call even when you aren’t: https://AICONTACT.AI
Funny how some of the people saying matter-of-factly that WFH is superior are titled Freelance.
I happen to know from 4 different agency finance teams (I consult) that the numbers show in-person being objectively more efficient over a stretch of time than WFH. Hours are shorter, people are happier, attrition is lower, and work is better/ clients are maintained longer.
Doesn’t matter that a few people are prepared to quit if not allowed to work remotely forever. They will end up in the minority over time.
See you at the water cooler.
I work in a cameras on culture where people we’re already spread out and I just got approved to wfh forever
Calm down, you’re not on mute.
Nah. Camera is a privilege. If companies want to attract top talent, they’ll stop coming up with arbitrary rules that don’t have any effect on the work.

Tell that to leadership, not to me
Dont think cameras have to be always On, but at least turn them On for good etiquette when needed.
The other day, we jumped on a creative review with the client. Lo and behold, the client had his camera On when everybody jumped in with our camera Off. Creative directors and some other senior creatives immediately turned our camera On to wave ‘hello’ to the client. There were a few mid-level and jr creatives still with their camera Off, even after we went around the table to introduce ourselves. Have some fucking common sense, kids. Then you’re yapping away in the performance review, all sad because you haven’t been promoted to senior. Being a senior is also about knowing how to wear an account hat.
