Crossroads Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. I have been with the organization almost 6 years and have accomplished achievement of my MSL (Masters Strategic Leadership) and LOVE the organization…BUT…I am not having any success in moving into a new position…my interviews are great experiences but it seems to be a pattern of not being selected yet encouraged to continue applying…received information from a mentor/manager to ask for candid feedback…when is enough…ENOUGH??

I’ve found that many companies don’t really understand what data science is, so the data scientist ends up doing a lot more data engineering than not
The last thing data scientists want to do is the data engineering part of their job. To ask them to become a data engineer full time is to tell them to find another job.
Old boss use to do this to our team of data analyst and data scientist. Have us trying to figure out issues in the data warehouse and build products because he simply didn’t want to pay for SEs
Does the boss even have those skill sets to be making triple the comp… as a data analyst if you put me in an SE environment don’t expect anything to be done with my skill set
Leadership ignorance. In Iraq, it was common practice for the battalion's scout sniper platoon to be divided up amongst the line infantry companies. Often, the line company commander would have the snipers assigned to any given patrol walk point.
Not the best use of them.
It comes back to not knowing how to use the tools you've been given as a manager.
I think data science as a field is growing in importance and respect. This is certainly not the way my company views things...
I appreciate the advice on this: I was a business owner before coming to the USA to finish my PhD. Now, I am a postdoc, with great results-driven research experience in the mathematical foundation of data science. However, I don’t really I belong to academia. But it seems that all data science in industry even in big tech, understand data science as a software engineering. Which is horrible. I am very good in programming but I am not software engineer yet. What can I do to open the door in industry? Or to make a productive, results and patents driven path in academia? Does it worth?!
