I’m an immigrant and this sounds like my nightmare
There are happy and fulfilled people in the Hamptons, but there are also rich, miserable people (and probably some miserable locals too). The Ralph Lauren ads are super shiny, and I get it looks super aspirational! The fact is, we all have to find ways to love the life we have. I fall into the comparison trap too, but in general, I’m very happy and love my life. I practice a lot of gratitude for what I have and remind myself how lucky I am. You don’t have to go very far on the news to see people suffering in ways I couldn’t imagine. We’re blessed beyond measure.

American born, work in a private equity and I can’t stand the Hamptons crowd. Some of the most hypocritical, bitter, miserable boring people I’ve met are exactly who you described. Don’t envy people based on what you see on the outside. Focus on building the life you want and staying true to who you are.
I’m American born and in finance and I stay as far away as possible from that crowd. They’re my worst nightmare as EY1 has stated.

It is nice. My parents are at that point. Turns out that having money doesn’t automatically make you feel miserable and racist! Who knew?
They’re enjoying retirement- they have hobbies, stay active, moved to a new place with a better climate. Take a class or two from the community college or something. Honestly I’m jealous.

I 100 percent guarantee you there’s someone out there who looks at what *you* have and thinks that’s all they need to make them happy, and they can’t imagine how you could be anything other than completely fulfilled. Image =/= reality; things are always more complicated than they appear from the outside.
