Straight up lol! Clowns

Some people just feel better when they’ve “put everyone in their place.”

This is a great point. I feel like some really bad negotiators use this “put them in their place” technique. Almost as if they knock the person down they can then wow them with an offer that isn’t what they wanted but they’ve been demoralized enough from the job that they think they’ve won. Bad negotiation technique, always.

Would you rather: (1) stay in big law (V100), collect your checks, keep billing 1900+ annually, knowing you’ll likely only progress to non-equity partner but stable pipelines for work; or (2) transition to boutique firm with no billable requirements, no minimum salary, on a pure revenue split (half of collections), option for equity partner in 16 months? In this scenario you’ve been practicing for 10 years but took some time off for babies and to lateral.

I am feeling pretty miserable on my current project and it sometimes feels like there’s no end in sight. Team is great, client isn’t too bad but I always have a huge work load and I’m constantly stressed by tight deadlines. Don’t necessarily want to roll off because I really like my team, but am also not sure at what point to put my mental health before my career goals. Any advice would be appreciated.

Just got a lateral offer, and know that conflicts/background check will take a little bit of time, and i’m hoping to take a week or two off in between jobs. My question is: would you take a vacation now or in the next few weeks before giving notice? Already losing motivation haha

like

I know this varies based on the company but besides project needs from the hiring manager, does anybody take multiple months between when your background check clears and you actually start? I don’t want to immediately jump from job to job but not sure if taking some time off is generally accepted.

I have decided to take a leave of absence for mental health reasons. My team is toxic which is a contributing factor and I need to get out. I’m going through a lot and it is scary. It’s also difficult because my parents do not understand my mental health issues and they get upset/agitated when I try to talk about it. Anyway you’re not alone if you feel the same. Don’t wait till your breaking point to take care of yourself.
