Go where you are wanted. And work for people who see your potential as limitless.
I needed to hear this too CMO. Thank you
Not sure why you’re here. You asked a question like you were really torn and open to suggestions and then argue with everyone who warns you away from pharma. You clearly want to take the job. Maybe you were hoping you’d get confirmation? Reassurance that Pharma isn’t that bad and not career killer? Sorry you’re not getting the answer you were hoping for. Good luck with your new job! Hope you have fun shooting geriatrics strolling down the beach and enjoying bike rides as a VO reads a thousand different ways the product can kill you.
I’m not sure why you think I’m “arguing” with everyone? I don’t see any arguments.
I’m conversing with people who have the same concerns as I do.
And you’re right. I do want to take the job, but I’m asking my peers their opinion. I obviously want the job...I interviewed for it.
I’m sorry my use of this platform hasnt sit well with you but your sarcasm and accusatory tone is kinda rude.
Also belittling one creative’s choice vs having an open convo (like the other people in this thread) about why they don’t like it, is kinda missing the big picture...that there are different people and needs and choices in life and there are 1000 different ways to work in advertising.
I hope you’re not treating your reports like that
Make plans to move. Leave on a high note. Do not wait until you feel stuck.
I would move to pharma
Yup. Me too.
Maybe it’s time to consider other creative agencies outside of pharma ones?
I agree! I’ve been in before and it was hard to get out, but I also am weighing different things than I used to (when I was young, ha!)
Move to Pharma
I would move - to pharma or not, that’s a different question but move 💯
Definitely - go. It’s the truth.
Nobody’s gonna stop you from pitching in on new business. Your position is part of a staffing plan that will only expand with more money in the coffers. New biz is one of the rare opportunities to own the work before it’s in the door, and get exposure above your boss’ head. Thats gonna require after hours work though.
New biz is an opportunity to go over boss’s head - what???
Go. I think there’s some interesting work happening in pharma. Tougher constraints sure but more to do with the clients willingness to buy good work.
Is it truly better work-life balance? I did the same and moved to pharma to work on a launch brand. It was intense. I went back to consumer real quick.
I have experience from years ago in oncology and rare disease. (I’ll be working rare disease again). It’s definitely a trade off, for a better organization vs creative freedom.

I would just make sure you’re having an open and honest convo with you’re current boss/job before you go. Your perception and the reality of what’s possible may be different. They may find a path for you if they know you’re going to leave.
It’s not worth staying at a place where they don’t see your value until you are about to leave.
?
Sorry :) was busy typing
I’m not getting what I need for my career at this place.
I have an opportunity to move into Pharma advertising and it’s going to be a huge step up for me career-wise, but not so much brand/client-wise. With better benefits and employee growth and even a better work-life balance.
So it’s the age old question:
Do I stay where I am and enjoy the creative freedom, even though I’ll never get promoted or supported by my boss or the company?
OR
Do I move on and potentially get stuck/bored in Pharma?
Don’t do pharma. There’s no creative freedom, boring as hell, long hours, and you’ll be stuck forever there (you can go back to consumer but it won’t be easy at all).
