Could a process engineer become a data engineer? Wondering because I work as a process engineer and I use coding to make processes more streamline (reducing cost increasing quality and reducing time).

HELP!

Ive been in operations and management mainly since i was 16. This year ive decided to improve my life and learn to code with a goal to be a software engineer. Currently still working but looking to break into tech in a support role to start. It’s definitely a big change and im working hard to make it reality. But the whole job process from reaching out to interviews and everything is very tough these days. How was everyone else’s experience changing career paths like this?

I want to pivot into the sustainability sector but I lack a formal degree in a related field and I have no experience volunteering or otherwise. Where should I start? I feel passionately about climate change and personally spend a lot of time learning/educating within my own spheres, but have been unable, due to personal circumstances, to really dedicate time to gaining concrete experience

Perhaps this is a silly question, but how did people here decide on their career path? I feel really burnt out in my current job and want to transition to a new role, but I can’t decide on what path I want to take, and I don’t know if trying to stay in the same field but perhaps a different environment might change how I feel. To put things in perspective, I’m only a year out of undergrad and trying to figure out if I should apply to grad school or pivot career paths.

How do you know when it’s best to stay in your position?

I’m tired of pivoting. I feel like my job has growth potential and I like my company. Also it seems like my company places a lot of emphasis on experience and I can only get that with time.
