Every agency is different, so you need to take a deep dive on the commission structure. I did the opposite path and left agency at 225K (45K base salary at the time) to a 90K Sr Recruiter role. As a manager I made it to the mid 100’s. Agency is a grind, when the market isn’t what it is now and I was working 12-13 hour days to make that money. Now is great for strong agency recruiters (I would likely be over 225K in today’s market), but remember that agency is completely dependent on the economy. Only your top 10% of recruiters made it through the recession in agency, whereas probably 60% big 4 recruiters made it….
If you can see survive big 4 hours, you can survive recruitment! The main thing is finding an agency with the right culture as they all go on about it at interview, but it’s BS most of the time. I joined a start up agency and haven’t looked back! You can also make very good money very quick, but the progression won’t be as strong as in other careers.
