Not sure how the labor market in Australia is but HR Assistant work or HR Admin work may be beneficial. You already have some experience so don’t discredit yourself, just show your willingness to continue learning the HR function in whatever capacity you can find.
If you like TA stick it out until you have skills and projects under your belt to show for it. Then start thinking about where to apply next
Agreed. Also look at a few different types of HR roles to see where you'd be a good fit...you can use that as a way to get more direct experience that could be useful when you apply for other roles
Human Resource is focused on administration skills. You said you were hired as an admin and was promoted to TA. That's a good point from where to transition to HR. As long as you have that good written communication and business management skills, you will pretty much have a bigger chance to get into HR. Just keep on applying and build a network or get some certifications. It will help a lot.
I agree, though non-profits will hire you because of your passion for the advocacy. There is little room for growth and there is always the danger of being exploited. I think you have what it takes since you already mentioned that you were hired as an admin, therefore you already have the potential. However, if you are looking to get promoted even further a degree in human resources is definitely necessary or if not an MBA.
If you really are looking to further your career, it might be best to acquire a degree or MBA as mentioned by HR Specialist 1. Another way is through trainings and certifications.
