I decided to become certified in an HR roll on my own time, while being a working mom - without my job knowing. I am ready to pivot. Anyone have any tips for night study after work while raising a family?

First off- congratulations! While I am NOT raising a family, I've been doing night studying for a few years now. Discipline is key. If there is literally anyone else who can keep your kids occupied, enlist their help. You will need it.

Thank you for your reply!

Anki is a flashcard app + computer software that might be helpful. You can use it to study when you have periods of downtime like waiting in line, passenger in the car, or the bathroom. It automatically helps with timing to create the perfect amount of time between flashcards so you can remember everything. You can also see if someone created flashcards for the same test/subject matter so you can get started even faster.

I'm not sure if your kids would be on board, but maybe you can all play family Jeopardy/trivia?

Mommy gets her HR questions and the kids get something age appropriate. Maybe a prize to bribe them into paying attention? (I'm not sure how your family dynamics play out)

New idea: investing platform that lets you make a note when you buy stocks/ index funds. And then tracks the growth of those stocks separately. (I.e. I have like 200 shares of something. But I bought 10 of those shares when I switched firms. And 10 of those shares with my 2022 bonus. I want to be able to note the occasion that I bought shares and then easily track the growth of those individual shares. As a scrapbook of my experiences. Rather than buying jewelry for sentimentality.

I’m 90% certain my owners are selling our privately held financial services company. This is a family owned company and they have always been very generous and cared for their employees. Would you tell your boss you’re looking for a new job?

My boss in the past has mentioned he would like employees to let him know. I am currently starting to look and interview. If I told him, it would be under the reason of the difference in timezone (which is partially true, most of my team is in Europe and I’m on PT). I tend to think letting a boss know is a bad idea, but interested in hearing from others.

Hi all! I’ve been curious if any entry level data analyst roles or anything similar out there exist that train you for the position. A little about my background. I currently work in Finance. And my former experience involved data manipulation but I never worked with any languages myself. I also have a 4 year degree. I’m starting to feel I’m not where I want to be at my age and want to transition into something that will get me to 6 figures or as close as possible. Open up advice!
