Start looking for roles outside the company. The biggest relief of my life was when I left a job where I liked the work but didn’t get along with any of the people. There are lots of places to work that will have interesting roles and great people. Culture is just as important to a job as the work that you do. Plus, you are likely to have more career opportunities in a company that you have a better fit with. We spend far too many hours a day at work to deal with this kind of problem.

Agree it’s time to start exploring other opportunities! When you start interviewing, make sure to ask to speak with as many potential team members as possible to get a sense of who you’d be working with and what their personalities and work styles are life. Remember that interviewing goes two ways and you are just as much deciding if they are right for you as the hiring company is deciding if you are right for them.

Start scheduling monthly one on ones with your manager. You can use the time to talk about things like career goals, career progression, skill gaps, team building ideas, additional projects, get to know your manager well. Coke prepared to these meetings and ask thoughtful questions. Also have some questions for your boss about how they are doing in their role. Additionally, you can schedule one on one with your team members and get to know them a bit better. I’ve learned that especially during this pandemic and WFH - sometimes you have to take the wheel and make these kinds of things happen. I started scheduling one on ones with my manager and meeting with team members to discuss anything from personal interest to process improvement ideas. People will respect you and people will notice the initiative. Also, you could tell your boss how you are feeling.

I understand these would work in these times of WFH but I have long been working physically and even though you ask for these one on ones I feel they are not useful. Yes on the managers, not on the team members, especially when you’re so busy executing everyone is at their worst

He half jokingly said I could wear Depends. Please tell me I’m not crazy and that it’s okay for me to not go and my dad should be at least somewhat understanding. We don’t have the best relationship.

I really don’t think there’s a chance that the SCOTUS overturns Roe. I would hope this affirming decision further slams the door on states trying to legislate what happens in a doctor’s office between a pregnant woman and her doctor. There’s always a chance this swings the other way, but this SCOTUS so far has a non partisan approach, regardless of what the media has portrayed. The panic seems unwarranted.

Do you have small talks with your manager and directs? Feel like an as*hole for not liking it. My boss likes to start our 1 on 1s with topics around family, trip plans, hobbies, and other small talks. I don’t care how his weekend was. Or his baby. And personally I don’t like sharing much about my family or personal life so the small talks thing is very annoying to me. He’s super nice and I like him a lot but I just don’t feel like we should try hard to get to know each other via small talks.

My wife is pregnant. Do the general courtesies of telling your manager/work beginning of 3rd trimester still apply during covid/work from home? Her industry has been hit hard and her job has been doing furloughs and layoffs. We can get pretty far without telling due to WFH but don’t want to put her boss in a bad position either.
